皆で作ろう！私のイングリッシュ教室

はじめまして！チャン・ジョアンナです。これまで、日本で約15年間、英語講師として活動をしてきました。様々な人と交流するのが大好きです！図書館でボラティア活動したりするのも好きです。現在、主に富山市内でイングリッシュ・サークルの代表講師として英会話活動をしています。

Nice to meet you!

It is very nice to meet you! My name is Joanna and I am an English teacher. I have lived and taught English in Japan for the past fifteen years.

I love meeting different people and getting to know them! I believe 'learning' should be empowering, accessible and fun, so I try to support international projects such as International Women's Day, and do volunteer work, such as reading English picture books to young children at the local library.

 

プロジェクトを立ち上げたきっかけ

私は６年前くらいに富山に移り住み、それ以来たくさんの方と出会いました。その中で、もっと英語を話したい！という希望をしている方や海外に住み経験を持つ方たちと協力しながらイングリッシュ・サークルを18か月前にスタートさせました。しかし、今までは固定の活動スペースや教室がなく、いつも適切な場所を探すのに苦労しました。そして、これからより多くの方に私たちの活動について知ってもらい、熱心に英語を勉強してきたメンバーたちと講師にとって安心して英会話や英語を学べるための拠点が必要だと強く思うようになりました。

ついに今年の4月、私たちの活動にピッタリに合う教室が決まりました！富山市婦中町にある一軒家の中で、１２畳のアット・ホームな雰囲気のお部屋です(写真１）。今までのサークル活動はもちろん、新しい英語ワークショップ (今年７月企画）や英会話イベント（今年８月中旬開催予定）を計画するためのオフィス・スペースとしても使えます。そして施設内のカフェを利用すれば、英会話カフェ（今年６月中旬開催予定）や子供のための英会話（現在日程調整中）、英語での絵本読み聞かせイベント（今年９月中旬開催予定）などを開くこともできます。様々なメンバーたちの興味やライフ・スタイルに合ったようなサークル活動やイベントを提供したくて、この場所で私たちの新活動拠点に設けることにしました。しかし、英会話教室に必要な家具などを購入する資金が後少し不足していて、皆さんの力を借りたく今回のプロジェクトを立ち上げました。

Humble beginnings...

With the encouragement and kind support from many keen students and generous friends, we began the English Circle about eighteen months ago. Together with a group of enthusiastic and intelligent English speakers in Toyama, we would meet regularly to learn and speak English.

The next step...

Earlier this year, while searching for an appropriate classroom (which is often difficult due to availability and cost), I came across this wonderful place, kitEn, located in Fuchu-Machi, Toyama. I was impressed with their up-to-date facilities (e.g. fast Wi-Fi connection and new cafe) and the operators' friendly demeanour. I started to dream about the potential classes and events we could have in a place like this.

 

The vision: a new 'home' for teachers and students... 

As teachers, this will become our 'hub' for managing and developing materials, planning meaningful lessons and fun activities for our students. The building's facilities and amenities would also enable us to offer students a variety of learning experiences. For instance, private lessons in a classroom setting, workshop settings for parents & young learners 'yomi-kikase' (around Sept. 2019), and social settings such as bookclub or English movie nights (dates are to be announced on kitEn website). Given the opportunity to collaborate with neighbouring tenants, we could organise social events (around Aug. 2019) in English, such as English meet-ups and Quiz night. Our new location would therefore allow us to make learning accessible to a range of learners with diverse needs and lifestyles, from young learners to business professionals.  

 

みんなの教室を仕上げるため。。。

今回のプロジェクトでは、皆さんからご支援をいただいて教室・オフィスの家具を購入したいと思います。まず、私たち講師がレッスンやフラッシュカードなどの教材作りのために４人用のダイニングテーブルとイスを５月下旬までに準備したいと思います。そして、共有する教科書PROPSなどの教材のための収納棚と引出し、リスニング用の音声スピーカや簡単な文房具、カーテン、マグネットホワイトボードと壁紙、講師たちの私物のためのロッカーを５月中旬から揃い始めます。私講師たちは力合わせてこの共有スペースを多くのメンバーたちにとって居心地の良い教室を完成させたいと思います。

We are working very hard to cover the initial set-up cost, but we need your assistance and generosity in furnishing our classroom. Your donation will help us (teachers) purchase desks and chairs before the end of May, whiteboard, bookshelves and cabinets, carpeting, curtains and wall paper, speakers and basic stationary such as coloring pencils and paper, making this room a cosy home for our students and teachers.

 

皆さんの温かいご支援を受け、ちょっとしたリターンですが。。。

今回、２，０００円、５、０００円、８，０００円以上のご支援には完成した教室やサークル活動の紹介写真などが載ったお礼の手紙をリターンとしてお届けいたします。現在、私たちの活動規模や範囲（富山市内中心）はまだ小さいためリターンの内容は不十分ではないかと思いますが、これからのサークル活動が拡大するのに大きな一歩とする今回のプロジェクトは皆さんからのご支援が切実に必要としています。ささやかなリターンですが、ご支援をよろしくお願いします。

We apologize for the insufficient return as we are currently a small group based in Toyama. Your donations will allow us to complete our classroom and in turn, help us create a much needed stable learning environment for our students and teachers.
