Towards  a Nuclear-Free World

The impact on Japanese society of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that struck on January 1, 2024 was second only to that of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. If a strong opposition movement on the Noto Peninsula had not been successful and the Suzu Nuclear Power Plant had been built, a nuclear disaster greater than that at Fukushima would undoubtably have resulted. If safety is the first priority, no nuclear facilities can exist anywhere in the Japanese archipelago, one of the most active areas of crustal movement in the world. This is what plate tectonics teaches us.
 
In reality, however, Japan has the fourth largest nuclear power generation capacity in the world after the U.S.A, France and China, and Japan has the largest stockpile of plutonium (for non-military purposes) after the U.K, Russia, France and the U.S.A 

While the outlook for the Ukraine-Russia war and Palestine-Israel war is unclear, Middle East tension is causing major energy, environment, and life-related crises. Nuke Info Tokyo, which was first published a year after the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident, has been delivering information in English bimonthly to readers all over the world. Over 220 issues have already been published. Since two years ago, thanks to generous support received as a result of our first crowdfunding campaign, all Citizens’ Nuclear Information Center Statements have been translated into English soon after their release in Japanese and usually reach readers in other countries within 24 hours. 36 statements have been translated thus far.

Neither nuclear power plants nor nuclear weapons can coexist with humanity. We strongly hope for the realization of a peaceful global environment, free from war, and with citizens around the world cooperating together hand in hand. There is not much time left. 
 In order to do that, we ask for support and cooperation from you and from as many people as possible.

I have been working with "NUKE INFO TOKYO" since its first issue in October 1987. After the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, we received information about the anti-nuclear movement around the world, but the movement in Japan was not widely known. We needed a publication in English to let people know that there are many movements in Japan.
　 
　I think it’s important to tell the people in the countries where new nuclear power plants are being built about the activities of the Japanese government, electric power companies and other parties promoting nuclear power plants. In addition to the main articles, the "News Watch" section, which I have been in charge of, plays an important role.
　I would like to ask for your support so that we can continue to provide useful information to help eliminate nuclear power plants from the world.
