Activity report！①

 

Thank you for your continued support. I am Shiori Ito, a project member.

The first visit to Nepal occurred in March 2024, so I present this report on our activities.

The following members visited as part of the Japanese team: Professor Motoji Sawabe, the lead representative of the project, Professor Akiko Kondo, Dr. Sujata (Nepalese Dentist), and Professor Kayoko Shinada (Dentist), Ms. Hiroko Tomita (Dental Hygienist), and Ms. Yuki Sawada (Dental Hygienist, Graduate Student).The members on the Nepalese side were Dr. Begam Roka, who initially proposed the project, and local collaborators Mr. Yam Roka and Mr. Om Krishna Sakha. We visited four schools, Dipendra Primary school, Bal Jyoti Primary school, Nepal National Primary school, and Shree Sidhyashory Primary school, with a total of 261 children.

 

Our project was conducted between March 25-27, 2024, where stationery and other donations were gifted to each school.

On the first day, we visited Dipendra Primary School and Bal Jyoti Primary School, followed by Nepal National Primary Schoo on the second day, and Shree Sidhyashory Primary School on the final day of site visit. All schools welcomed us warmly and celebrated our arrival with a local cultural ceremony . The children, their  mothers and staffs from the ward office had gathered and were very happy to participate the program.

Both schools are located deep in the mountains with poor access. Children walk for about an hour to school on unpaved roads.

These areas do not have running water and they manage their water supply by rain water harvesting into storage tanks. Water from these tanks is boiled and used for drinking purposes. In such seemingly harsh environment, poor children live with smiles on their faces.
