No One Left Out: Our Homeless World Cup Journey!

Have you ever experienced the feeling of being left out?

 In your class. On your team. At your workplace. On social media. That moment when you suddenly realize you're the only one on the "outside." There are people who, while living with this feeling of isolation, and within societal structures that create exclusion, continue to search for a place where they belong—a "home." This includes individuals experiencing homelessness, refugees, social withdrawal (hikikomori), addiction, disabilities, and sexual minorities...

 

We, the NPO Diversity Soccer Association, are working to create inclusive sports environments where no one is left out, with the participation of those facing such difficulties.

 

As one of our activities, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign with an initial goal of 3.5 million yen to send a Japanese national team to the Homeless World Cup in Oslo, scheduled for August 2025.

 

If realized, this will be Japan's first consecutive appearance, following our successful participation in the Seoul tournament last year after a 13-year hiatus. Achieving this first consecutive appearance is a crucial first step towards establishing a system for continuously sending a Japanese team to the Homeless World Cup.

 

The experience of the Seoul tournament made it clear that being able to connect with the world through their beloved sport: soccer, can become a source of hope to live positively, for people living in poverty or unstable housing.

We are confident that by continuing to send a team every year, we can provide hope and vitality to even more people, and that the community supporting those facing difficulties will grow larger and stronger.

 

This will become a beacon of hope for people in Japan who face various social difficulties and have been left out by society, and it will empower us to expand our efforts in creating inclusive sports environments.

 

As we aim for and continue to achieve consecutive appearances in the Homeless World Cup, we also aspire to create new places within Japan where individuals can regularly improve their soccer skills.

 

A world where everyone has companions who accept each other's uniqueness, and because of that, can encounter and take on challenges true to themselves.　We ask for your support in our endeavor to create such a society!
