We need to give medical care to the 4 millions of refugees who risked their lives coming from over the seas

Thank you for visiting our page. I’m Nao Kuroyanagi from Doctors of the World. 10 years have passed since I began working at Doctors of the World and during these 10 years I saw many difficult situations in different places of the world. Our mission is always herculean and we often feel powerless but we refuse to give up and we still provide help.

We, Doctors of the World, are a non-governmental organization with branches in 15 countries providing emergency and long term medical care. We use our international network to overcome the barriers of the nationality, the race, the religion etc. and help the world’s most vulnerable people.

Currently we escort and give medical care to the refugees from Syria going to Greece, France and other countries. They lost their home and their country, travelled over thousands of kilometers and are now forced to live in dirty camps. They are 4 million and some of their camps over 5 years have been destroyed.

The goal of this crowdfunding project is to gather enough resources to provide medical care to refugees who travelled through the Mediterranean Sea risking their lives to flee to Europe. With your support we can provide medical care to around 300 people. We need your donations to help them!

The Syrian refugees travelled over thousands risking their lives

The war in Syria began 5 years ago

This war in Syria burst out in January 2011. The battles are getting stronger and the exit doesn’t seem close. According to reports 6.6 million of people have been displaced internally and 13.5 million need humanitarian aid(Data source: OCHA as of Sep 2016)。

The crisis totally changed   their lives

The 6th winter since the beginning of the crisis is coming and the only and simple hope of the Syrian refugees fleeing from their country under war and crossing the sea to find Europe is to reach a place where they can live in peace.

The number of refugees, already over 4 million is exceeding the camps capacity, food and medical care is permanently lacking. The refugees who couldn’t integrate into the camps live in ruined houses to protect themselves from the rain and the winds.

Awful memories, no vision of future and daily dismay is wearing them down

Over 4 million of refugees have been deprived of their home
and are not receiving appropriate assistance.

The critical reality of the camps
the refugees exceeding the camps capacity asking for help

I visited the front line of the refugees assistance camp located in the port of Calais at the English Channel. Around 5000 people are staying there permanently.

When I entered inside the camp with the medical team making rounds to provide medical consultations I hardly could believe this scenery belongs to a developed country. The tents and shabby huts are pitched in the muddy ground, there is no electricity, no water, and no gas. Here A man is unable to move because of a strong fever, there a woman twisted his foot, another woman has been having irregular periods for several months, and another man is lying in a bed suffering from hemiplegia because of an accident. A lot of people ask for medical care and the medical team could only move forward 100 meters in 2hours.

Medical assistance is highly needed but no information is available and there is nobody to provide help appropriately. The refugees below the cold sky are powerless and alone, forced to overcome ordeals not only in this camp but in every places they are directed to.

Many refugees of the camp need medical assistance

Medical care and testimony
Doctors of the World’s assistance activities for the refugees

Our mission is to provide medical care and testimony

Medical care is helping directly by providing treatment for a disease or a wound. Medical care to the refugees includes a large range of activities such as “Primary care”, “health care to mothers and their children”, “mental care”, “distribution of emergency items”.

We use our network of teams based in different countries to provide a continuous medical care during the travel between Syria and the different places they’re heading to such as Greece, Germany, and France.

The other part of our mission is to provide a testimony, to show to everybody how injustice and inequality exist in this world and explain that we need everybody help to change it together.

In Japan sadly I often hear “the war and the refugees is the problem of a far country”, “We have no means to react from Japan” “It’s horrible but we can’t do anything”. However it is reality and we can’t ignore it.

We need your help to help them

Our goal is to make a future where everybody has access to medical care

The exit of the crisis doesn’t seem to be close yet and the refugees have no idea when they will be able to go back to their country. They will need our help. We, Doctors of the World, don’t want to abandon the refugees and we provide medical care in different locations to help them during this absurd travel.

This crowdfunding is a baton passing between the refugees, Doctors of the World and you. Please give us your support.

With the cold of the winter coming more refugees will need medical care. Please make a donation to help the refugees during this winter.

We, Doctors of the World, support the refugees as much we can
(Nao Kuroyanagi:2nd from the right)
