We need to continue our community health activities for Gazan children and mothers in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

◆Background

The blockade on the Gaza strip has restricted the free movement of people and goods for 14 years. Industries are declined, and resources are lacked. People in Gaza are strip severe poverty, especially children are suffering from serious malnutrition. 

Due to 3 massive military attacks from 2008 to 2014, many people were killed, injured, and left homeless. Necessary infrastructure, including the power plant and sewage treatment facility was attacked and has not been repaired. 

 

 There are a lot of buildings remained with holes made by bullets and air strikes.

On top of the severe situation, as of October 18, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases exceeds 4,600 and 27 people have died in Gaza strip. The number of patients continues to increase rapidly in the overpopulated strip. 

 

◆Activities 

 

Working with local women volunteers and staff from the Palestinian NGO "Ard El Insan" (AEI), JVC has conducted nutrition and health education programs for children since 2013, including health checks and development checks. In this period, approximately 4,500 children received health checks, and their family members received training sessions. 

 

Confirmation of development status (height) for children

 

The activities are implemented by over 70 local volunteers who have completed training to become health advisors. They conduct home visits to families with pregnant women or children under five-years-old and provide them with individual counseling as well as nutrition and cooking lessons. 

With your support, we can conduct the following activities:

1 Training for 40 health volunteers
2 Health checks and development checks for 1,800 children. (Provide advice and follow-up by Whats’App in case of lockdown)
3 Distribution of supplements and food 
4 Educational sessions on nutrition, health, and parenting
5 Advice about prevention of infection
