Around one in seven children in Japan is in relatively poor situation (financially distressed).  Half of all single-mother families are poor.

 

We support about 2,700 needy families who are raising children across Japan, 60% of whom earn less than 2 million yen(USD14k）a year and 86% less than 3 million yen (USD21k).

 

40-50% of families spend less than 10,000 yen (USD70) a month on food per person.

 

 

 

 

Many of these single-mothers are in non-regular employment and work for minimum wage.

 

The Japanese economy is growing, and company wages are starting to rise, but the wages of single mothers in non-regular employment have not risen at all.

 

 

 

 

With wages not increasing and prices rising, electricity and food prices are going up, and their lives are grossly damaged.

 

Many families do not turn on the air-conditioner because the electricity bill has increased and still cannot prepare enough food for their children.

 

88% of parents are worried that they will not be able to provide their children with a nutritious and balanced diet during the summer holidays, while 60% of parents say they will not be able to provide their children with enough food.

 

 

 

 

Parents have expressed their grief over it.

 

-With rising prices, we have no choice but to further reduce the quality of food, and growing children also feel undernourished. My child has been warned that he is too thin during school health checks, but there is nothing I can do about it.

 

-I have no choice but to cut back on my food and use it to pay for air conditioning.

 

- I hardly buy meat or fish and I skip meals 2.3 times a week.

 

 

 

 

Some children lose weight during the summer holidays because they don't get any nutrition because school meals are not available during the summer holidays.

Please help us send rice, vegetables and frozen food to needy families who are raising children.

(1) Delivering food to needy families with children nationwide completely free of charge

 

(2) Providing a place for learning support completely free of charge

 

We operate completely free learning-support classes for approximately 2,000 elementary to high school students who are deprived of learning opportunities in needy families.
