Urgent assistance required to relocate to a new location - 
to protect rescued animals that have no where else to go

At Oppo no Kai, our mission is to make sure that every animal gets the life they deserve, and for us that means making sure that we provide for each animal that comes to our organization.

 

In order for us to provide the best life for these animals, our hope is to have the right environment and equipment to do so.

 

Our shelter is located deep in to the mountains, and at times becomes difficult to provide emergency care. In the winters, the roads up to the shelter are frozen, and it is unlikely that we will be able to go another winter with the set up we currently have.

 

Over the years, we have had temporary fixes to the shelter, but it has come to a point now where we will have to relocate to ensure the safety of the animals.

The minimum required to safely move the animals to the new location is 27 million JPY.

 

As you know, up until now we have maintained and ran the organization without cash contributions from outside organizations/individuals. However, due to the scale of our next mission, we would like to kindly ask for your support through the crowd funding initiative we have set up.

 

All of the proceeds will go towards the moving of the animals, set up of the new location, and fees to cover the land itself. On behalf of everyone at Oppo no Kai, we would like to thank you in advance for your kind contributions and support!

 

 

 

OPPO NO KAI
We are an animal rescue organization committed to act forthrightly for the lives in front of us.

 

Thank you for taking the time to read this. 
We are an organization based in Shinshiro, Aichi prefecture. 
We are committed to finding the best families for the animals that we rescue at Oppo no Kai.
 
While we take in many types of animals, our focus is to rescue those that may not be accepted in to other shelters (large dogs, dogs from puppy mills, dogs with pre-existing conditions, handicapped, aggressive dogs etc.). Once we rescue them and provide the necessary medical care, we look to find appropriate families who can take them in.
 
Some examples include pit bulls, borzoi, Tosa breed - 
and have close to 100 cats/dogs rescued at our organization.

 

 

In the past 4 years, we have managed to find homes for 500 dogs/cats that have come to our shelter. We also actively host charity events in hopes of finding the right families for our animals!

 

 

Some of the challenges we face at the shelter currently-

 

 

1.Difficulty in transporting animals during emergency 

 

The shelter is currently located far from the closest highway exit (Shinshiro city - 40 mins away by car) and becomes increasingly difficult to transport in the colder months when the roads get icy. 

At Oppo, we rescue many senior animals and animals with pre-existing conditions, and thus emergency trips become inevitable. Our closest vet is a 60 minute drive from the shelter.

 

We face a lot of life or death situations at the shelter,  
and at times have to make difficult decisions based on where we are located. 
Our hope is to be located in an area of more convenience to save more lives

 

 

2. Fatal winter conditions

 

The colder months make it increasingly difficult for the animals to have the safety they require. 

It also becomes difficult for the volunteers to drive to the location when the roads are icy.

 
During the winter months, our volunteers can only come during the day when the sun is out and is safer to drive.

 

 

The outside dog run, pipelines, and air conditioning also freeze in the winter, and as you can imagine, we continue to face challenges in providing the necessary care for the animals.

 

Due to the danger of the icy roads to the shelter, 
we temporarily pause adoption meet and greets for everyone's safety. 
We also cannot accept any more animals at this time as the shelter would continue to overflow. 

 

Every year the conditions seem to get worse, and due to the deterioration of our current shelter, 
we believe it will be difficult to go through another cold winter with our animals.

 

 

3. Deterioration of the shelter

 

We initially built this shelter four years ago - 
many of which were built ourselves with the support of the volunteers.

 

 

But due to the extreme conditions we face in this area, 
a lot of the equipment and facilities have deteriorated.

 

 

While we have temporarily fixed a lot of the issues (rain leakage, rebuilding dog pens etc.) the problems continue to occur. 
It also has been difficult to fund a lot of these fixes and finding the right people to help fix the shelter.

 

 

We would like to initially ask for your support in moving us to a new location.

This will include not only the fees of the land, but transportation of the animals and the bare minimum construction that will be required to keep the animals safe.

 

Our secondary goals will be to continue additional construction to provide a better environment for the animals and the volunteers. We expect the total cost to reach 35 million JPY, but would like to initially ask for your support on the minimum 16 million JPY which will help with securing and moving to a more suitable location. 

 

By moving to the new location, we can expect to improve the safety and efficiency of our shelter.

 

Most importantly,
we will only be 30 minutes away from our usual vet, 
which we hope will ultimately lead to saving more lives in the future. 
We can also ensure the safety of our volunteers when they come to Oppo. 
If in any case we run in to an emergency situation, there are a few vets within a 10 minute drive that we can go to. 

 

Additionally, we will be only 5 minutes away from the closest highway exit (Shinshiro city), which ultimately allows for more people to come visit our organization.

 

As mentioned previously, during the winter months we temporarily pause any meet and greets as the iced roads can be dangerous. This means that no new animals can enter or leave our shelter at this time. We hope that by moving to the new location, we reduce the risk of danger and also allow easier access for meet ups with potential families.

 

The new location is around 1,294m2 and will allow our bigger dogs to have the appropriate space for exercise and play. While we will have to do some construction to create the necessary pens/dog run etc, this new location has everything in place to provide the necessary care for our animals.

 

 

We have been on the search for a new piece of land for a while now, and it took us a while to get here as we had been overwhelmed with medical bills. After countless months of searching, 
we have finally been able to find a location that is best suited for our animals!

 

One of the main things that was crucial for our next location was to be close to a highway exit. 

Not only does this mean that we are closer to our vet, 
but volunteers and other families can now access our location with ease and safety.  
 
We are also 150m away from the closest neighbors, 
so both the dogs and neighbors can live stress free (we are currently only 20m away).
 
As mentioned previously, we run our organization on minimal cash donations and will continue to ask for your support through our Amazon wishlist with the items we need. 
But this move will require a significant amount of funding to successfully move our animals to the new location. 

Given this reality, our friends and supporters have pushed us to start this crowd funding initiative. We thank you in advance for your sincere cooperation and support!

 

 

In order to move, we will initially require 10 million JPY to purchase the land, 
and additional cost to build basic infrastructure for our animals.

 

We will do everything in our power to provide the best care for all animals that come our way, 
and so we would like to ask for your support to reach this initial milestone.

 

 

After the initial set up milestone of 16 million JPY, 
we hope to continue to build our organization to further support the lives of our animals.

 

1.Additional 5 million JPY : Concrete flooring on the main land and sewage construction

 

It is set by the Animal protection law that all shelters  must have concrete flooring for their main dog run to maintain hygiene and safety. 
It is disinfected daily to ensure safety for our animals. 
With this additional fund (after the 16 million to secure the land and other basic construction), 
we will be able to provide the dogs with the necessary infrastructure for them to exercise.

2. Additional 6 million JPY: Electric construction in the warehouse and kennel construction 

The land currently has agricultural kennels which will be fixed to be made in to animal kennels. 

This will be especially important for our bigger dogs that will require additional safety.
