▼Introduction 

 

Greetings friends and colleagues! 

 

Thank you for your interest in this project which aims to raise awareness of the impact of stroke and raise awareness of clinical treatment pathways that help to restore function and independence to those affected by spasticity. I would like to ask for your support of this project which will enable free access to patients and healthcare professionals from around the globe.

 

I am Vaikunthan Rajaratnam a Hand Surgeon and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the World Congress for the Management of Post-Stroke Spasticity 2020.

This first World Congress brought together a multidisciplinary team of professionals who managed patients with stroke enabling sharing of best practice and raising awareness of the possibilities for treatment of this devastating condition.

 

In February 2021, the faculty and participants succeeded in conducting a first trans-disciplinary meeting involving stroke physicians, therapist, rehabilitation physicians, nurses and surgeons. Due to the world COVID-19 pandemic, the congress originally planned for Okinawa, Japan, was presented as a virtual meeting. 

 

The eminent faculty have been extremely kind and committed tremendous effort into the

production of a comprehensive educational resource detailing the latest research and evidence based clinical pathways in the management of post-stroke spasticity.

 

The congress committee are committed to ensuring that these essential resources are freely available to healthcare professionals around the globe with the creation of a platform that can support access for all. Asynchronous access will be provided to healthcare professionals especially from low- and medium-income countries who were not able to attend the conference.To date we have approximately 35 participants who have showed interest in accessing these educational resource materials.

 

 

The committee believe that this project has the potential to improve care provision for stroke patients across the globe. Stroke creates a global health burden and access to high quality clinical educational material should not be limited by the financial resources available to a healthcare professional.

 

Stroke is ranked as the second leading cause of death worldwide with an annual mortality rate of about 5.5 million. Not only does the burden of stroke lie in the high mortality but the high morbidity also results in up to 50% of survivors being chronically disabled.

 

Stroke is therefore a disease of immense public health importance with serious economic and social consequences. The public health burden of stroke is set to rise over future decades because of demographic transitions of populations, particularly in developing countries.

 

Establishing and maintaining a platform for sharing knowledge comes with a moderate cost considering the wide-ranging benefits that this will create for stroke patients around the globe. The organising committee of the WCPSS are committed to building the evidence base in management of stroke, disseminating best practice and access to appropriate treatment and raising standards of care for all.

 

A minimum of $10,000. USD required to establish and maintain this platform and we are looking for support in this venture. Ongoing access to the content for the 100 healthcare professionals already registered is estimated to be $100 per participant but it is infinitely scaleable and once established the platform will be able to accept new registrants for as little as $10USD. Please make a difference to the global burden of stroke by supporting access for healthcare professionals. From as little as $100USD you can support hundreds of stroke patients across the globe.

a. Healthcare professional can access a repository of current knowledge on post stroke spasticity in the form of videos, lectures and treatment guidelines and protocols.

 

b.  Healthcare professionals will be able to collaborate with world experts in knowledge sharing and managing post stroke spasticity and research through an online communication system.

 

c. Enable the development of a team approach to managing spasticity through online partnerships.

 

d. Facilitate the development of a transdisciplinary consensus statement on the management of post-stroke spasticity.

▼About Returns

 

We will all come back together in December 2022 in Okinawa, Japan.

As a return for $500USD support, we will provide you a free pass for the next conference in 2022.

It is planned to be a physical conference, however we may have to change it to Hybird/Virtual conference. You will still be able to attend the conference virtually.

 

Please understand that we cannot make returns if the conference in 2022 cancelled.
