Overview and How to support by Credit Card.

Click here for details on how to support.

The Inoue Ballet Foundation is established in 1968 based in Tokyo.
Hirofumi Inoue, founder of the company, danced in Europe in his youth and then came back to Japan with a dream to introduce this wonderful European art form to Japanese people.
As repertoire, the company has main classical ballet numbers such as “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “The Nutcracker”, “Coppelia”, “Cinderella”, “Pas de Quatre”, “Variations de Serge Lifar” along with a lot of creations.  Notably, we have been keeping a good relationship with Royal Danish Ballet and have been working on its traditional Bournonville technique and performed Bournonville ballets such as “La Sylphide”, “Napoli act 3”, “La Ventana”, “Conservatoire”, “Flower Festival in Genzano” with the collaboration especially with Mr. Frank Andersen, former Artistic Director (1985 ~ 1994 , 2001 ~ 2008 ).

Not only performing the ballet numbers, we have been learning the style continuously by inviting Danish instructors. We organized nation-wide Bournonville Summer Seminar 6 times and many workshops, for we recognize that the expansion of this traditional and important ballet technique is our mission.  Bournonville technique is significant in ballet history because through this style, we can see the ballets of Romantic Era.
Bournonville ballets are often danced in ballet competitions and concerts. Unfortunately, however, the correct style is not always respected by the performers.  Many people learn the ballet by Youtube or other recorded materials, so the precise details are not clear.
We would like to make a group of Danish instructor, demonstrators and pianist in order that we can make tours to the cities in and out of Tokyo to meet a lot of young students and dancers.  For we believe they need to know that the special style exists and by learning the exercises of Bournonville school, they can improve their skills to dance not only Bournonville Ballets but also other classical numbers.
We have done this kind of workshops in Utsunomiya, Yokaichi, Sendai and Osaka along with the workshops inside the company for our own dancers.  Recently, the flights cost, transportation fee in Japan and hotels become so expensive, which makes us it very difficult  to continue the activity.

We decided to challenge Crowd Funding in order to continue our activity to expand the style. At the same time, we wish that many people know the existence of this wonderful cultural tradition and become interested in ballet itself.
In this summer, we will invite Ms. Petrusjka Broholm, former soloist and now teacher of Royal Danish Ballet as instructor and will organize the workshops in Inoue Ballet studio and in Kumiko Wakasa Ballet in Matsue, Shimane prefecture as well as open classes for the professional dancers.

We appreciate your kind interest and support for our activities.  Please help us to succeed this first challenge to the funding.  We shall let you know how we will be doing when we have occasions.   We thank you very much in advance.

Frank Andersen
Former Artistic Director of Royal Danish Ballet
International Instructor and stager of Bournonville Ballet

To Whom It May Concern,

I have been working with the Inoue Ballet Foundation for about 40 years: First as a dancer, then as an instructor, choreographer and artistic adviser.
I am Danish and have been Artistic Director for the Royal Danish Ballet for 16 years. August Bournonville was a Danish Director and Choreographer, and he lived from 1805 until 1879.
He created the famous Bournonville Style, that I, for the last 40 years, have been teaching all over the world, and also in Japan.
All through these years, organization members and dancers from The INOUE ballet have learnt the Danish Bournonville Style, and they have now, in their repertoire, many of the main Bournonville ballets such as “La Sylphide” “Conservatoire” ”La Ventana” and “Napoli” and so forth. The young students, that I was teaching in the 1980ties and the 90ties are now mature dancers and know the Bournonville Style and is passing on the torch in Japan. Not only instructing and performing Bournonvilles ballets, but they are always keen to expand the style by giving workshops, lectures and seminars to spread the word about the Bournonville treasure.
This demand a lot of work and a lot of money.  I totally support the project of “delivering” Bournonville classes and the style for the young dancers who have difficulty to get the chance to learn the style directly from the Bournonville instructors.  By learning the Bournonville school, ballet students and dancers can experience the techniques in order to dance and perform in the Bournonville ballets.  In addition, these techniques help them to improve their skills of dancing all kind of ballets.
Inoue Ballet are taking on themselves to be responsible for ensuring, that as many dancers, students and children as possible will get to experience this style without leaving their home towns.

Do not go to where Bournonville is, Bournonville will come to you.

I find this idea fantastic and I definitely hope, that I can participate in the project as a teacher and instructor in near future.
