Campaign for building a school in Cambodia(English)

About this project

:To build a school in Cambodia

Thank you for visiting our site. HOPE International Development Agency (hereinafter referred to as HOPE) is a certified NPO in Japan.

In accordance with our mission, “Helping the Neglected Poor Become Self-Reliant,” we support rural communities in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Ethiopia to become self-reliant so that no one is left behind.

In Cambodia in addition to our water projects we also provide support for education such as building schools so that children can receive an education.
However, this year, our 20th anniversary, due to the ongoing pandemic our physical charity events in Japan have been cancelled. Financing school construction has become difficult, but we don’t want to give up on helping the children in Cambodia!
An education is the most effective way to break out of the cycle of poverty.

HOPE plans to build an elementary school in the village of Krawsaing Pnov With your generosity, we can achieve our goal to help this community in Krawsaing Pnov village build a school for their children.
Thank you for giving Hope to these children !

About our support in Cambodia

:To provide access to clean water

HOPE has been working to provide access to clean water to rural communities in Cambodia since its founding in Japan some 20 years ago.

Some people may ask, "Why water?"
We all need water to live. Having access to clean water is important in many aspects of our lives and indispensable to obtaining an education and growing an economy. Clean water sources improve public health, increase children’s enrollment in schools, and also empower women.

However, in the Pursat Province, Cambodia, many communities still do not have reliable access to clean water, and children spend hours each day fetching water. This prevents them from going to school regularly, if at all. By improving access to water, that sharply increases community health and hygiene, the cycle of poverty can be broken, and communities can move further along the path to self-reliance.

HOPE provides support in various forms to help neglected communities break out of poverty.

After 20 years in Pursat Province, Cambodia, 67% of population in Phnom Kravanh now has access to clean water. When we started working in Pursat our operations were mostly focused in the eastern region, but now our projects are shifting westward. As the area where we work has expanded, forests were cleared, roads were built, and the local population increased.

About our support in Cambodia

:To support education for children

Once access to clean water is made available, HOPE begins its support for education.
Children who cannot get an education will face limited career options in the future, and will not be able to get jobs, and consequently will be trapped in the cycle of poverty.

Currently, the main problems that schools in the project area face are:

  • Due to inadequate school building structures, classes are conducted outdoors.
  • Buildings are extremely dilapidated, so children’s safety is a main concern.
  • Children needing an education are far greater in number than current school capacity.

HOPE plans to build a school to meet the urgent needs of the community’s request. The quality of our school buildings last decades and will serve many generations in the community.

HOPE has built several schools in Pursat Province and all of our schools are well managed and maintained by the children, teachers, and their local community. At the request of the local community, we have decided to build an elementary school in the village of Krawsaing Pnov, Pursat Province.

We plan to complete the school construction by the spring of 2022 to accommodate all the children in this community.

HOPE supports the goals of SDG 4, that is, “To ensure quality education for all.”

We need your support to build

an elementary school for Krawsaing Pnov.

In this 20th anniversary year of our organization, together with our donors, volunteers, interns and sponsors who have supported our work over many years, and with our new supporters who pledge to help us, we can build an elementary school for Krawsaing Pnov.

An elementary school will be built in Krawsaing Pnov Village, in Pursat Province, Cambodia. Members of the local community will also participate in the construction of the school building. The involvement of the local community in the construction of the school will instill in them a sense of ownership, which will ensure the management and sustainability of the school.

The entire project will cost approximately 5.4 million yen to build a reinforced concrete school building with three classrooms and toilets.
HOPE Japan is partnering with HOPE USA to fund this project.

Our goal is 2 million yen.

Use of Funds
The construction costs for a school building (one classroom), school equipment: 2 million yen

The construction schedule, after the pandemic has subsided:
Month 1: Purchase construction materials and preparation of construction site
Month 2: Prepare and build construction foundation
Months 3 to 5: Construction of the School Building

For children to broaden the horizons

and to expand the possibilities for future

When we ask the children at our project sites what they would like to be in the future, many answer “a schoolteacher!”  To many of them, the only profession to which they aspire is to become a schoolteacher.

Through an education, we can broaden our horizons and expand the possibilities for our future. An elementary school will be built in the village of Krawsaing Pnov, where children can discover and aspire to new dreams. We would be grateful for your help in building such a school.
