About our organization

 

Established in September 2024, our organization aims to deepen understanding between the people of Japan and Nepal from a private-sector perspective, and to contribute to the promotion of friendship and goodwill between the two countries, as well as international understanding of culture, the environment, and other areas, through mutual exchange and cooperation in areas such as the economy in general (trade, investment, healthcare, tourism, energy, human resources, employment, etc.), culture, sports, the environment, education, disaster prevention, and NPOs and NGOs.

 

We organize exchange meetings, study groups, exhibitions, etc. necessary for mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Nepal, collect, organize, store and provide information and materials about Nepal, and provide advice and support for mutual cooperation between NPOs, NGOs, etc. in the overall economic affairs between Japan and Nepal.

 

We have also collaborated with related organizations both in Japan and abroad, providing a forum for interaction and exchange of opinions between Nepalese people visiting and living in Japan, and planning, producing and publishing publications such as newsletters and research reports.

 

Our philosophy is "Connecting Cultures, Nurturing the Future." 

Our goal is to bring stability and hope to Nepal, a country facing political and economic turmoil, through grassroots support and exchange.

 

 

We have continued our activities with the aim of "connecting the cultures of Japan and Nepal and nurturing the future."

 

 

 

Nepal faces unprecedented challenges

 

Nepal is more than just a recipient of our support. It is a "second home" where our colleagues live, with whom we have studied, worked, and laughed. But now, the country is facing unprecedented challenges.

 

■ September 8, 2025: Protests break out

 

On September 8, 2025, the government banned 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube, triggering large-scale youth-led protests across Nepal, including Kathmandu.

 

In particular, young people and students known as Generation Z rebelled, claiming that their freedom of expression was being taken away and that the corruption of politicians and the privileged class was being tolerated. They quickly shared their frustrations on social media and took to the streets.

 

In Kathmandu's New Baneswar district, police and security forces clashed with demonstrators, with water cannons, tear gas, and live ammunition being used, according to official reports, resulting in at least 17 deaths and dozens of injuries. (Later, the Ministry of Health announced that the death toll had risen to 72, with over 2,000 injured.)

 

On the following day, the 9th, demonstrators stormed the Federal Parliament (Parliament building), broke through security lines, set fire to and destroyed several rooms within the parliamentary complex, and looted furniture. As the protests intensified, prominent politicians who supported the government, including former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, were forced to resign.

 

 

 

■ The Parliament Building was burned down

 

The Parliament building was symbolically burned down, and not only was the building physically damaged, but the shock of the "symbol of democracy" and "the country's decision-making mechanism" was felt by Nepalese and their supporters around the world.

 

The steel beams were scorched black, and the conference room where lawmakers had been holding debates was reduced to rubble, with the desks and chairs collapsing. We have seen photos of rain leaking in through the scorched ceiling of the chamber, paper documents mixed with mud.

 

Our faith in democracy, our national pride, and our hopes for the future are all in danger of being buried in the ashes.

 

 

 

■ Society, politics, and everyday life are all at a turning point

 

The unrest spread beyond central Kathmandu to the provinces, with attacks on courts, administrative buildings, ministerial residences, hotels, shopping malls, and other areas, causing damage estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars.

 

In addition, many public offices are being operated in temporary facilities, causing disruptions to administrative services, and people's daily lives are being significantly disrupted with mandatory curfews, military deployments, and the suspension of public services.

 

A new interim government has now been formed. Protesters are demanding not only the repeal of social media restrictions, but also the establishment of a corruption watchdog and the assurance of political transparency.

 

Young people have become more aware of the need to change politics themselves, as they have previously felt that "nothing will change anyway," and their protests have evolved from simple demonstrations to movements calling for systemic reform.

 

In this way, a strong youth-led movement has emerged in Nepal, symbolized by the burning of buildings, and society, politics, and everyday life are all at a turning point.

 

 

 

About this project

 

As a volunteer group based in Japan with deep ties to Nepal, we want to face this critical situation in a positive manner and support the "reconstruction of the Parliament Building" as the first step towards Nepal's revitalization!

 

We believe that our support project (reconstruction of the Parliament Building) can also have great significance in this "tide of change."

 

We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to connect the passionate feelings of all those who want to support Nepal in this time of turmoil to Nepal.

 

 

 

■ Significance of this project

 

Toilets are not just facilities. Providing temporary toilets that are sheltered from the wind and rain and are hygienically designed with hand-washing and disinfection facilities not only increases convenience, but also has the following implications:

 

✔ Protect the health and dignity of those working at reconstruction sites

✔ Ensure a sanitary environment that is considerate of women, the elderly, and people with disabilities

✔ Prevent infectious diseases and odors from construction sites and protect the living environment of surrounding residents

 

Even if reconstruction of the Parliament Buildingbegins, if there are no toilets that can be used safely, the site will become chaotic and neither the workers nor the guests will be able to concentrate fully.

 

The first step in rebuilding the area is to build multiple toilets that can be used safely, which will serve as the foundation, and then create an environment where people can gather in peace. Building toilets may seem like a small step, but it is a very big one.

 

This project aims to help restore "a sanitary environment and human dignity suitable for a place where people can gather, work, and communicate."

 

 

■ Reasons for taking on crowdfunding

 

The Nepalese government's financial situation was already tight even before the parliament building was burned down, and the current unrest has put it in an even more difficult situation.

 

Much of the national budget is being diverted to maintaining public order, disaster response, and emergency relief, with "temporary facilities" and "sanitary infrastructure" being given lower priority.

 

Due to the system, aid from overseas is also subject to many time and restrictions, making it difficult to deliver it quickly to "places that are needed now." In this situation, we thought that flexible financial support from citizens would be the "power to reach the site."

 

We considered various methods of fundraising, including government grants, collaboration with international NGOs, and corporate sponsorship, but due to the chaos and political vacuum on the ground, as well as the lengthy approval process, we chose crowdfunding as a method that offered immediacy and flexibility.

 

Furthermore, crowdfunding is not just a way to raise money. As a sign of empathy and solidarity, even those of us who cannot go to Nepal in person can deliver our thoughts and connections, and we believe this project will change from "support for repairing things" to "support for connecting people's hearts and society."

We believe that hope has the power to rekindle the fire. This project is not just a "reconstruction project."

 

That means restoring a space where the people can once again gather, discuss, and make decisions.

To create a space where future leaders can aspire to politics with hope.

And to create bonds of support between people in the midst of despair.

 

The revival of Nepal is not a story of a faraway country. Let us all light the hopes of our neighbors together now. The support of each and every one of you will illuminate the future of Nepal as it rises from the ashes.

 

We will continue to build a system that ensures reliable support, based on the trust between Nepal and Japan.
