Shuon-an Ikkyu-ji Temple in Kyoto has been engaged in projects to preserve cultural heritage for the future, alongside all of you.

The charms of Japan's traditional culture and the challenges of safeguarding cultural heritage are not widely known to the general public. Through this project, we aim to increase awareness and simultaneously foster interest in advanced technologies to address these challenges, as well as in contemporary artists living in the present. We believe that this will help pass down our traditions to the next generation.

 

In this project, we will use titanium materials for re-roofing.

Titanium, in addition to being suitable for temple and shrine architecture like this, holds great potential for our everyday lives. Advancements in its processing technology have also brought out its charm in the realm of art. It can be said that this material will have a significant impact on our lives and culture in the future.

 

Titanium materials offer various advantages as a new material. They harmonize well with wooden structures, seamlessly fitting in with historic architecture.

 

While there are still few examples of its use in Kyoto, it is already employed in a wide range of architectural projects in Tokyo and the Kanto region. We hope that you can support the appeal of titanium materials, which can enhance the individuality of each construction project.

 

The primary goal of this project is to pass on the baton handed down by our predecessors and not let it end with our generation. The restoration of the Kaizan-do hall fulfilled a crucial mission of inheriting the Law Lamp passed down from Shakyamuni. As we connect the Law Lamp, we will also pass down the traditional culture and techniques of Japan to future generations.

 

Japanese craftsmen have always pursued the best and finest of their times. This is the culmination of the efforts and challenges of many generations.

 

In the Reiwa era, Japanese technology has opened up great potential with titanium. Temple and shrine architecture is originally at the forefront of both architecture and culture, influencing our daily lives. There is room for improvement in the preservation and maintenance of contemporary cultural heritage. Many gaps exist between the field and regulations. We are addressing these challenges and working towards transforming temples and shrines into active entities, rather than mere heritage sites.

Through financial support from supporters and the connections established with them, the temple can solve its problems and provide supporters with the history and culture that the temple has cherished. We believe that crowdfunding is a mutually beneficial relationship that can be established. The crowdfunding platform READYFOR is the ideal tool for us to communicate with society.
