　On the Earth　超大陸　オーストラリア

 

 

 

 

　深夜のバングルバングル、岩で覚ますと顔の上に銀河が広がっていた。自分が宇宙にいる感覚にとらわれた。満天の星という言葉が陳腐になるぐらい、星々の瞬きの間に自分が存在していることを感じた。ここはどこだろう。宇宙？自問自答した。自分はやっぱり地球にいる。その体験が作品造りを支配した。

　

オーストラリア大陸は世界最古の大陸。生まれたままの地球の姿が残っている。そこには60億年の生命体としての地球の表情が見られる。　それを撮影のコンセプトにしたのがEarthrait(Earth+Portrait相原造語)。今回の写真集はEarthraitをさらに推し進め視点を、地球外に移動した。もし自分が他の天体からこの惑星を訪れたとき、眼にした地球の色、模様、素材はこんな風に見えるのではと考えた視点で撮影した。それを写真展という絵物語にした。

今回は宇宙に浮かぶ地球に見立てた奇岩から物語は始まり、また再び銀河の中に存在する奇岩へ戻る。実はここに、今までの写真展と写真集に共通した概念が埋め込まれている。輪廻転生。砂漠でキャンプをして一番感じることは、すべての生命は奇蹟の結晶である。そして奇蹟はいつか終わる。だがまた再び奇蹟は始まる。その永遠の繰り返しであること。これはビッグバンから始まった宇宙とても同じこと。”On the Earth”、オーストラリア大陸を通して表現したかった地球のポートレートであり、宇宙の輪廻転生の物語である。

Late at night, Bungle Bungle, I woke up on a rock and saw a galaxyspread out over my face. I was caught by the sensation that I was in space. Ifelt that I existed amongst the blink of stars, so much so that the term 'fullof stars' became a cliché. Where am I? Space? I asked myself. I am on Earthafter all. This experience dominated the creation of the work.

　

Australia is the world's oldest continent. The earth as it was bornremains. There you can see the expression of the Earth as a 6 billion year oldlife-form.　Thiswas the concept behind the photography of Earthrait (coined by Aihara from thewords Earth+Portrait). In this collection of photographs, Earthrait is taken astep further and the viewpoint is moved beyond the Earth. The photographs weretaken from the perspective that if I were to visit this planet from anothercelestial body, I would see the colours, patterns and materials of the Earth inthis way. I turned this into a pictorial narrative in the form of aphotographic exhibition.

This time, the story begins with a strange rock that looks like theEarth floating in space, and then returns again to a strange rock that existsin the galaxy. In fact, embedded here is a concept that has been common to boththe exhibition and the photo book so far. Reincarnation. When camping in thedesert, I feel that all life is the fruit of a miracle. And miracles will oneday come to an end. But then the miracle begins again. It is an eternalrepetition. This is the same with the universe, which began with the BigBang." On the Earth" is the portrait of the Earth that I wanted toexpress through the Australian continent, and the story of the reincarnation ofthe universe.
