Crowdfunding for research to develop "PGV-1" as a side-effect-free anti-cancer drug

[Project objectives]

• Curcumin-derived “PGV-1” discovered by Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) has cancer activity with few side effects and may be used as a new therapeutic drug in the future
• Research is progressing to mouse experiments, but further research is needed to proceed to the next step (human clinical trials)
• In order to accelerate research, we want to purchase research equipment that can observe cell changes more precisely

 

[What is PGV-1 (pentagamavumon-1)?]

 

The compound curcumin in the spice turmeric was found to be effective against cancer cells but you would need to eat the equivalent of 150 curries a day to get this benefit!

 

PGV-1 is a compound based on the structure of curcumin. We found PGV-1 to have an anti-cancer effect in mice with minimal side effects! PGV-1 works by inhibiting enzymes in the reactive oxygen species metabolism pathways.

[What is a flux analyzer?]

The flux analyzer is a machine that analyzes the metabolism of cells. We know that PGV-1 interacts with ROS metabolic enzymes, but we need to know in detail the effects of this on cancer cells before we can proceed to human clinical trials! But this machine is very expensive.

 

[What will we do with the money?]

• 20 million yen (about 6.5 million yen has already been secured)
  • Purchasing a flux analyzer: 10 million yen
  • Perform flux analysis (consumables, etc.): 10 million yen
• About the flux analyzer: the target amount is the minimum amount required to purchase the cheapest version, but if we gather more, we can purchase the more sophisticated equipment
