MYパラオ　コラム第2弾！

こんにちは、第2回にあたる今回はパラオの食文化についてお伝えします。

Hi,I will tell you about Palau food culture this time.

 

パラオの食事としてよくテレビやパンフレットで取り上げられているのはこのコウモリスープではないでしょうか。

I think you often watch this bat soup on TV and magazines for promoting Palau

 

 

羽の部分にコラーゲンが多く含まれていると言われ、女性にはとても嬉しい食べ物です。

パラオで食用とされているコウモリは「フルーツバット」と呼ばれているコウモリで、名前の通り果物を食用としています。

そのため、人間も食べることが出来るのです。

通常はパラオ人の家庭でお祝い事や特別な時に出てくる食事ですが、ドラゴン亭やモグモグレストランなどのレストランでも観光客の方に楽しんでいただけるようになっています。

 

The feathers contain a lot of collagen,and it is a very happy food for women.

 

Bats that are eaten in Palau are called "fruit bat",and as the name suggests,they use edible fruits.

Therefore,humans can also eat.

Usually,it is a meal that comes out for celebrations and special occasions in Palau's homes,but restaurants such as the Dragontei and Mog Mog restaurant are also available to tourists.

 

パラオ人の主食はタロイモやタピオカ（キャッサバ）です。

日本でタピオカジュースが流行っていますが、原材料はキャッサバというお芋です。

基本的にパラオではその芋を蒸して食します。

味は甘くないさつまいもに似ています。

ココナッツミルクと一緒にすり潰したタピオカモチもお店でよく見かけます。

The staple foods of Palau are taro and tapioca (cassava).

Tapioca juice is popular in Japan,but the main ingredient is cassava.

Basically,in Palau we steam the salmon and eat it.

The taste is similar to sweet unsweetened.

You can often see tapiokamochi which is crushed with coconut milk at the store.

 

 

この主食とともに食べるのが魚です。

美しい海に囲まれている海洋国家パラオは、魚が豊富です。

日本にもマグロが輸出されているので、スーパーで見かけることができます。

Palauan eat fish with this staple food.

The maritime nation  Palau that surrounded by the beautiful ocean is rich in fish.

As tuna is also exported to Japan,you can see it at supermarkets.

 

 

 

パラオ人は魚の煮付けをよく食べていますが、この「煮付け」もパラオ語としてそのまま「ニツケ」と呼びます。

（日本統治時代の名残でパラオ語になった日本語が多く残っています。）

また、パラオでは刺身も食しますが、その際に醤油に入れるのがパラオレモンと呼ばれるレモンです。

パラオ人には「キンカン」と呼ばれます。

このパラオレモンは、刺身のほか、アイスティーやレモンサワーなどに使われます。

 

※パラオのレストランではアイスティーがおかわり自由になっているところが多いです！

 

Palauan often eat boiled fish,and this "boiled fish" is also called "Nitsuke" (Japanese)as Palau.

(There are still many Japanese that became Palauan because of the remnants of Japanese rule.)

Also,Palauan eat raw fish with a lemon called Palau lemon to put in soy sauce.

It is called "kinkan" to Palau people.

This Palau lemon is used for iced tea and lemon sour as well as raw fish.

 

※In Palau's restaurant,there are many places where ice tea is free to refill!

 

その他、南国らしい果物も豊富にあります。

こちらの写真は「ランブータン」という果物です。

マレー語で「Rambut 」は「髪」のこと。

見た目がたくさん毛が生えているようなので、ランブータンという名前がつけられたそうです。

Besides,there are also a wealth of tropical fruits in Palau.

This picture is a fruit called "Rambutan".

In Male,"Rambut" means "hair".

It looks like a lot of hair,so it was named Rambutan

 

 

また、バナナも豊富にありますが、日本で売っているバナナよりも短く太いのが特徴です。

There are also a wealth of bananas,but they are characterized by being shorter and thicker than those sold in Japan.

 

 

パラオのバナナの中でも、最北の有人島「カヤンゲル島」のバナナが一番美味しいと言われています。

「最後の秘境」と言われるほど美しい景色が広がるカヤンゲル島で、是非美味しいバナナを召し上がってみてください！

Among the Palauan bananas,the bananas of the northernmost humanized island "Kayangel Island" are said to be the best.

Please enjoy delicious bananas on Kayangel Island where the beautiful scenery is said to be "the last secret site"!
