Palestinian Refugees under COVID-19: Support Rana a Medical Student to be a Doctor

 

Purpose of our project

Jordan hosts many refugees from the surrounding war-torn countries in the Middle East. Rana, a Palestinian student is one of them who studies now in Faculty of Medicine. Graduated from high school with the highest marks, she has difficulty to continue her study because of her special status as an Ex-Gaza refugee who are required to pay expensive tuition fee not affordable from her needy family. Please help Rana to achieve her dream to be a medical doctor so that she can help others in Jordan under COVID-19.

 

 

Who we are? - the Organizer of this Project

Japanese Scholarship Programme for Palestinians (JSPP) was established in April 2010 as a private organization which aims to support Palestinian students who became refugees as a result of the conflict with Israel. In collaboration with UNRWA, we send scholarship to the undergraduate students and help them to achieve their higher education despite economic and social hardship. We support especially Ex-Gaza refugees in Jordan who have special hardship among other Palestinian refugees, and already 10 scholars have graduated from universities.

 

While JSPP has supported scholars within its yearly budget through public recruiting in Jordan and selecting excellent students, Rana will be our first scholar who studies in Faculty of Medicine. Supporting a medical student until graduation will require much higher budget and will be a challenge for JSPP. For sustainable support of her, it might be difficult for us to support the other candidate scholars simultaneously. Under the threat of COVID-19, education of the medical students to be doctors and nurses has never had such vital significance than ever both in Jordan and the world. We are looking forward to your kind support to our excellent scholar Rana for her tireless effort and study to achieve her dream of saving lives of people.

 

 

About our excellent scholar, Rana

For admission to universities, there is a common test of graduation from high schools in countries in the Middle East called “tawjihi” which is applied also in Jordan and Palestine. The results’ point decides possible choices in which university she/he can study.

Rana gained marvelous point of 98.6 out of 100 in total in tawjihi. Because of her excellent school achievement, she got her chance to study in Faculty of Medicine in a university in Jordan, however, the expensive tuition fee costs her a high burden and her family rents the money from her relatives to continue her study. Rana’s mother manages to earn her family living by herself working in a farm with her son.
