少数民族 クカマ族の言語保存と文化伝承のための文化センターの建設

こんにちは！私たちはクカマ古民家研究チームです。

私たちは現在、ペルー・アマゾンのNauta村で、クカマ族という少数民族の言語を保存・伝承するための文化センターを建設するプロジェクトを実施しています。

 

このプロジェクトチームは、建築家で慶應義塾大学教授の小林博人、ペルー・カトリカ大学（PUCP-Lima）の教授であるルイス・マルティン・ピッチーニ、プロジェクトチームのリーダであるロジャー・アコスタ、ペルー・カトリカ大学と慶應義塾大学の学生、Nautaでクカマ文化保存活動を行うラジオ・ウカマラ（Radio Ucamara）により構成されており、その他ペルー・カトリカ大学在籍の学生アシスタントなどがサポートしています。

 

建設する文化センターや使用する什器のデザインにはペルー・カトリカ大学の学生が関わっており、実際の施工には、加えて慶應義塾大学の学生も協力しています。

 

さらに、このプロジェクトはペルー・カトリカ大学建築都市研究センター（CIAC PUCP）とオーストリア大使館から資金援助を受けています。

Hello, we are Kukama Kuminka Research Team!

We are currently implementing a project to build a cultural center in the village of Nauta in the Peruvian Amazon to preserve and transmit the language of the Kukama ethnic minority.

 

The project team includes Hiroto Kobayashi, architect and professor at Keio University; Luis Martín Piccini, professor at Universidad Católica de Perú (PUCP-Lima); Roger Acosta, project team leader; students from Universidad Católica de Perú and Keio University; and Radio Ucamara, a cultural preservation organization in Nauta.

In addition, this team is supported by student assistants from Universidad Católica de Peru.

 

Students from Universidad Católica de Peru are involved in the design of the cultural center and furniture, and students from Keio University also assist in the actual construction of the center and research in Nauta.

 

In addition, this project is funded by the Center for Architecture and Urban Studies of Universidad Católica de Peru (CIAC PUCP) and the Austrian Embassy.

 

 

 

▼プロジェクトを立ち上げたきっかけ

 

ペルー・アマゾンで最も人種差別を受け、見えない先住民として認識されているクカマ族（Stocks,1981）は、医療、教育、雇用に恵まれず、医療サービスへのアクセスも制限されています。必要なサービスを受けるためには、しばしば自分たちの習慣や言語を隠すことを余儀なくされ（Piccini, 2023）、それがクカマの言語と文化の継承と保存の問題につながっています。

 

ラジオ・ウカマラ（Radio Ucamara）は、地元のクカマ族の指導者たちとともに、ラジオ番組や、クカマ語とスペイン語の二ヶ国語の出版物の制作を通じて彼らの言語を守り、彼らの文化や先祖伝来の知識を広める活動を20年間続けてきました。現在校舎を持たないクカマ語学校であるイクアリ（Ikuari）もまた、クカマ民族の年長者から若い青年が集い、クカマの言語や彼らの文化である薬草や治療薬の知識の伝承を試みてきました。

しかし、両団体は活動拠点がないためさまざまな制限を受けています。

 

このプロジェクトでは、クカマ・コミュニティの社会経済的地位の向上を目指していますが、そのためにはクカマ語とその文化を継承していく活動を促進することが重要であると考えています。

こうした背景から、このプロジェクトでは、クカマ語の保存・文化伝承をするためのインフラを整え、この活動を推進することを目的として、文化センターの建設を行います。

 

 

文化センターを設立により、下記3つの目的を達成していきます。

 

1.　クカマ語の伝承に20年間携わるラジオ・ウカマラ（Radio Ucamara）の活動を推進するため、ラジオの放送拠点、セミナー・レクチャー、展示ができるような場所をつくる。

 

2.　現在校舎を持たないクカマ語学校であるイクアリ（Ikuari）での教育は、現状おばあちゃんのお家などを転々として行われている。固定の教室をつくることで、より安定した教育体制の構築を支える。

 

3.　クカマの伝統医学を支える植物のバイオガーデンをつくる場所を設けることで、伝統医学の知識を共有するだけではなく、植物を育てながらより実践的に学びを深められるようにする。

 

 

▼ Why we launch the project?

 

Recognized as the ethnic group being discriminated and invisible indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon (Stocks, 1981), the Kukama people have limited access to healthcare, education, and employment. In order to receive the services they need, they are often forced to conceal their customs and language (Piccini, 2023), which leads to problems of transmission and preservation of the Kukama language and culture.

 

Radio Ucamara, together with local Kukama leaders, has been working for 20 years to preserve their language and spread knowledge of their culture and ancestry through radio programs and the production of bilingual Kukama and Spanish publications.

Ikuari, a Kukama language school that currently has no school building, has also attempted to pass on the Kukama language and knowledge of their culture of medicinal herbs and remedies by bringing together elders and young adolescents of the Kukama people.

 

However, both groups face various limitations due to the lack of a base of operations.

This project aims to improve the socioeconomic status of the Kukama community, and in order to do so, we believe it is important to promote activities to pass on the Kukama language and culture.

 

Against this background, this project aims to establish an infrastructure for the preservation and cultural transmission of the Kukama language and to promote these activities through the construction of a cultural center.

Through the establishment of the cultural center, the following three objectives will be achieved

 

1. to create a base for radio broadcasts, seminars/lectures, and exhibitions in order to promote the activities of Radio Ucamara, which has been involved in the transmission of the Kukama language for 20 years

 

2. The Ikuari language school, which does not currently have a school building, is currently teaching at grandmother's houses and other locations. The creation of fixed classrooms will support the establishment of a more stable educational system. 

 

3. by creating a place to build a bio-garden of plants that support traditional medicine in Kukama, we will not only share knowledge of traditional medicine, but also enable students to learn more practically while growing plants.

 

 

 

▼プロジェクトの内容

 

まずは、ロレト州ナウタでの活動拠点となるラジオ・ウカマラとの調整のため、ナウタを数回訪問します。

2024年1月から2月にかけて開催する国際ワークショップを通じ、慶應義塾大学の小林博人教授、ペルー・カトリカ大学（PUCP-Lima）の教授、学生と地元クカマ・コミュニティのリーダーたちと協力しながら、クカマ・コミュニティ（※1）とともに、センターの設計に取り組みます。

 

2024年3月、部品をイキトスからナウタに運び、モジュール化された木製のパーツをイキトスの地元木材加工所にて切り出したあと、２週間かけて、小林博人教授、PUCPの学生と支援地域の人々の協力のもと、文化センターを組み立てていきます。

（現在この段階で、現地で施工が始まっています。）

 

クカマ族の人々が自分たちの文化や言語に溶け込み、学び、分かち合える場所が必要です。そのため、私たちはクカマ語の普及と文化のためのセンター建設に充てられる予算の増額分の寄付をお願いしています。

クカマ語はペルーで約1000人が話しています（出典：ユネスコ）が、日常的にこの言語を学んだり使ったりする機会が非常に少ないため、この数は減少しています。

 

文化センターの建設は、クカマ語の教育と普及に特化したスペースの提供、クカマ語の保存に貢献するでしょう。また、若者が自分たちの文化的ルーツを知り、地域社会における世代間の理解を深めることにもつながるでしょう。

私たちペルー・日本両国の学生にとっては少数民族の文化保存に関わる貴重な機会であり、将来的に地域に貢献する建築家としてリーダーシップを発揮するための足がかりとなるでしょう。

※1「クカマ・コミュニティ」とは、ナウタ（30,000人）、ブエン・レティーロ（600人）、ヌエボ・サン・ファン（700人）、トゥパク・アマル（50人）のコミュニティを指します。

 

 

▼ Project Description

 

First, we made several visits to Nauta to coordinate with Radio Ucamara, which would be our base of operations in Nauta, Loreto.

Through an international workshop to be held in January-February 2024, we would work with Professor Hiroto Kobayashi of Keio University, professors and students of Universidad Católica de Perú (PUCP-Lima) and local Kukama community leaders to design the center with the Kukama community (*1). We will work on the design of the center with the Kukama community (*1).

 

In March 2024, the components will be transported from Iquitos to Nauta, where the modularized wooden parts will be cut at a local wood mill in Iquitos. Over the next two weeks, the cultural center will be assembled with the help of Professor Hiroto Kobayashi, PUCP students, and people from the supporting community.

 

The Kukama people need a place where they can integrate, learn, and share their culture and language. To that end, we are asking for donations for an increase in the budget allocated for the construction of a center for the promotion and culture of the Kukama language.

The Kukama language is spoken by approximately 1,000 people in Peru (source: UNESCO), but this number is declining because there are very few opportunities to learn and use this language on a daily basis.

 

The construction of a cultural center would contribute to the preservation of the Kukama language, providing a space dedicated to its education and promotion. It will also help young people to learn about their cultural roots and promote intergenerational understanding within the community.

For our Peruvian and Japanese students, this is a rare opportunity to be involved in the cultural preservation of an ethnic minority and a stepping stone to future leadership as architects serving the community.

建設終了後も現地団体と継続的にコンタクトを取り、実際の利用状況について調査を続けます。

 

また、プロジェクトを遂行する私たちのチームは、クカマ語、スペイン語、英語、日本語、フランス語、中国語に精通するメンバーとともに、今後さまざまな言語でプロジェクトに関する出版物を作成し、ラジオ・ウカマラ、ペルー・カトリカ大学や慶應義塾大学にて発表することで、より研究を前進させていきます。

このプロジェクトが、少数民族の言語や文化の保存・伝承のためのモデルケースとなることを期待しています。

 

 

▼ Project Outlook and Vision

 

After the construction is completed, we will continue to be in contact with local organizations and continue to conduct research on the actual usage of the project.

 

Our project team, with members fluent in Kukama, Spanish, English, Japanese, French and Chinese, will also continue to advance our research by producing publications on the project in various languages and presenting them at Radio Ucámara, Universidad Católica de Peru, and Keio University. The project will be further advanced through publications in various languages and presentations at Radio Ucámara, Universidad Católica de Peru and Keio University.

We hope that this project will serve as a model case for the preservation and transmission of minority languages and cultures.
