Messages from Myanmar 

 

◆ Dr. Win Myat Aye (NUG/Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster  Management) 

The coup by the military junta occurred at a time when the economy was badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The military junta is still ignoring international human rights law, acting hostilely to the people demanding peaceful democratization, and repeating massacres. Even so, the people are persistently resisting them without giving up. The number of displaced persons has increased in recent months, and they are helping each other. 

We look forward to the support of the Japanese people who respect human rights in  Myanmar. The victory of the people is not far away. Thank you for your support and cooperation. 

 

◆ Dr. Shwe Pon (NUG/Deputy Minister of Health) 

It has been a year since our country, Myanmar, was deprived of power by the military junta. Nearly 700,000 people have been evacuated from their homes during the year due to military airstrikes, violence, and arson. 

Thirty-one medical workers have been killed, and approximately 300 medical workers are still detained by the junta thus far. In addition, more than 100 hospitals, clinics, medical facilities, and medical equipment have been destroyed at the same time, putting the lives of many evacuees in need of treatment at risk.

The Ministry of Health has provided medical support by all means, including online medical care. Currently, there is a shortage of emergency hospitals and facilities that can accept emergency patients. Additionally, many medical devices and drugs are needed. 

We ask for your immediate support in terms of both life and medical care so that we can overcome this crisis. 

 

In the End: Messages from the Project team 

A year ago, the future of Myanmar people was unreasonably deprived of their future by the coup d'etat. A year later, we are heartbroken to see the Ukrainians face the same unreasonable use of force,  feeling frustrated and helpless for not being able to prevent it from happening.

Although it is a project to support Myanmar, we have experienced the same pain, and therefore, would like to take this opportunity to show that we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. We wish for safety and peace for all people around the world.

Project Team:

 

・Misaki Otsuki

Su Win Yee came to Japan in 2003. After graduating from a University in Kyoto, she has worked in a Japanese logistics company and engaged in CSR activities overseas such as Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. She is currently working at a telecommunications company.

 

・Khin Zay Yar Myint

Khin Zay Yar Myint came to Japan in 2008. After graduating with a Master’s degree in International Health from the University of Tokyo, she has been working in a Japanese medical company.

 

・Lae Lae Lwin

Lae Lae Lwin came to Japan in 2013 and is currently working in a Japanese medical institution. She has established the Spring Revolution Restaurant, a fundraising restaurant for Myanmar.

 

・Thet Thet Mar

Thet Thet Mar came to Japan in 2013. After graduating with an MBA degree from the International University of Japan, she is currently working in a Japanese security system company.　
 

・Su Myat Han

Su Myat Han came to Japan in 2016. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, she has worked in the Humanitarian Support Organization. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Nagasaki University, a joint Ph.D. program with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

・Reo Murakami

After Studying Development Economics in the US, Reo Murakami has worked in a startup company in Myanmar. (finance and distribution) in Myanmar. Currently, as a freelancer, he gives corporate advisories and lectures at universities.

 

・Keiko Nakao　　　　　　　　　　　　　

Keiko Kakao joined the Burma Relief Center of Japan in 1998 and has become a representative since 2000. She visits Myanmar every year and has engaged in various projects cooperating with Myanmar local organizations.

* When you donate by bank transfer, we will ask for the bank account information for refunds, but in principle, we will not refund because this project is implemented as an “all-in” model. However, if the project cannot be launched, or if the transfer amount exceeds or is insufficient and the additional transfer cannot be made, the bank account provided will be used for refund purposes.
