■Introduction

Residents in the community where our farm is located in the Northern Region of Ghana use the unsanitary pond as drinking water.
This year, three people among 400 users of the ponds lost their lives to typhoid fever. However, we are the only ones who can improve this imminent situation in the local community, where no government or international NGO is involved. We desire to solve this pressing issue as soon as possible. We also have the long-term perspective and unlock the potential of the people of the Northern region of Ghana, both socially and economically, by supporting agriculture and creating jobs. To achieve this, we need your support for well construction project.

KAMBANG Farms and Supplies Ltd, are company registered in Ghana.

Our mission is “To improve the lives of the rural people in Ghana”, and we try to achieve this mission through agriculture-related projects. At this time, we aim to improve the lives of 300 people by constructing water borehole to deliver water to the local people.

We have been operating the business in Northern Ghana since 2016 with the idea that international cooperation could be sustainable through business. Focusing on a community in the Mion District of the Northern Region, we have

worked on farming business and agricultural machinery rental, which have generated employment and industry over the past five years.

However, the local community has no sanitary water supply.

Imagine. If the water supply stops at your house. What if you had to walk 5 km away to get clean water? What would life be like?

Water is essential for improving local living standards. The provision of water is also a target of 6 of the SDGs set out by the UN. With the construction of the water borehole, we desire to support the community from a social aspect, and then further derive the potential of the people.

■About us (KAMBANG Farms and Supplies Ltd.)

Established in 2016, and registered as a legal entity in the Republic of Ghana in 2019.

The company's establishment was triggered by two Japanese directors (Tsuchihashi and Nishijima) who have experienced the volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana when they were students. They witnessed the education and poverty issues at the orphanage. Through their activities, they came to believe that they wanted to work together with local people to solve poverty and other problems facing Ghana from a long-term and sustainable perspective.

In this context, Tsuchihashi met the current partner, Ayuba Ahmed Muin, and we decided to start a business in the northern region of Ghana.

It expresses the company's desire to raise the quality of living standards in the Northern Region of Ghana while improving the quality of its products and human resources.

■Motto: "Create Tamale Model"

Our corporate motto is “Create Tamale Model” - Tamale is the name of a city in Northern Ghana and we are committed to creating a role model community and business in Tamale.

Why Northern Ghana?

Northern Ghana faces a difficult situation with low incomes and high levels of poverty due to the scarcity of land and the inability to produce commodity crops such as cocoa and pineapple, compared to the south. In the Mion District, in

particular, more than half of the inhabitants live on less than USD 1.9 per day (Ghana Statistical service 2015).

On the other hand, people in northern Ghana are highly motivated to work and have identified the potential to overcome their situation by creating businesses.

Ayuba Ahmed Muin is a highly motivated northern Ghanaian. We have developed a strong coordination to create a success story in the northern region of Ghana where their living standards can be improved.

■Realizing the mission "To improve the lives of the rural people in Ghana"

We have been working for the past five years to create jobs and industry in northern Ghana, but this alone has not improved the lives of the local people.

What was the problem?

The community did not have access to safe water, which the residents needed for their livelihoods.

They took drinking water from a pond.

In order to improve the living standards of the local people, it was necessary to

  1. Creating local industries.
  2. Establishing safe and secure social infrastructure.

We have realized that we need to solve the problems in both of these ways.

1. Creating local employment and industry (up to the present)

We have worked to vitalize local agriculture by producing rice, soybean, and renting agricultural machinery. In particular, there was a lack of access to agricultural machinery in northern Ghana due to the inability to cover the costs. Farmers in the communities sometimes threw away their crops because they could not harvest them. To prevent such lost opportunities, the project has focused on the tractor and combine harvester rental.

In the past five years, the business has created employment for local people

2. Establishing safe and secure social infrastructure (this project and the future)

Even if we provide economic assistance, such as creating jobs, employment, etc., the lack of access to water is a major bottleneck in revitalizing the community. The lack of access to safe water is a serious challenge. Therefore, constructing the water borehole is the necessary support.

■Impact of this project

Due to the absence of a water borehole in the community, residents currently fetch water from ponds (rainwater). The distance to the water point has been a major challenge for many years. This crowdfunding project will provide water to approximately 300 residents inside and outside the community. This will have the following three impacts.

①Preventing the development of infectious diseases among the local people

The use of unclean water for domestic use is a major cause of infectious diseases (cholera, typhoid, and dysentery), especially for children. Delivering clean water reduces the risk of infection for local people.

② Improving children's school attendance.

Children are forced to fetch water during the day to carry water to distant wells. As a result, they do not have time to go to school. Installing wells will ensure that children have time to go to school.

③ Improved incomes for residents

Some residents want to work, but do not have enough time to do so because they spend a lot of time fetching water. Reducing the time spent fetching water ensures time for work and contributes to improving residents' incomes.

■Deriving the potential of communities

Strengthening the social infrastructure by improving access to water will help improve the community's economic and social stability and derive the community's potential.

The overall picture of the community and the sphere of influence of the construction of wells

For adults, the construction of the wells will significantly reduce the time to obtain water, which can be allocated to economic activities. This will undoubtedly make a significant difference to the living conditions of approximately 300 local residents.

The project will create a success story of local economic revitalization in northern Ghana' and will be a solid stepping stone to spreading this model to other regions.

For these reasons, we need a water borehole. We would like you to agree with our strong desire and support us in this endeavor.

■How we apply the project

We will construct a hand-pushed well. We have obtained a quotation and the construction of the well will cost approximately 700,000 yen. We will raise 300,000 yen of this through crowdfunding (we have set a target of 450,000 yen, taking into account fees and exchange rate fluctuations). If donations exceed the cost of constructing the wells, the excess will be used to improve social infrastructure (electricity, telecommunications, etc.) for the local people

*We will responsibly report on our support activities and the specific items for which the funds raised will be used, either on this page or through our newsletters.

*For the future maintenance of the wells, we operate on a farm adjacent to the community, which allows us to operate the wells sustainably.

Quotation for well construction (as of September 2022).
To be commissioned by local company Zamzam drilling and engineering Ltd.

Your donation would be appreciated!
