原発に頼らない社会を。市民から世界へ34年の情報発信を継続したい

　When Dr. Takagi started NIT (Nuke Info Tokyo) more than 30 years ago, we honestly didn’t know how many issues we would be able to publish. I remember we said “Well, it’s worth a try, so let's try it.” Youth and the era that we were in made such an adventure possible. Now, when I look back on the 200th issue of the bimonthly magazine, I’m filled with emotion.
　Having said that, since the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, I have been driven by the desire to deliver information to people around the world more often, I feel that  bimonthly is not enough. But how can we do this when we are forced to spend so much time and effort on even the monthly CNIC Japanese Newsletter? It is essential to expand both financially and our staff. Now that the science of nuclear energy has stepped into a world of dangerous and uncontrolled use, we must unite the power of the citizens of the world to realize the elimination of nuclear power in order to prevent the repetition of further tragedies and for the survival of human beings. I would like to ask for the cooperation of as many citizens as possible.　

　I have been working with "NUKE INFO TOKYO" since its first issue in October 1987. After the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, we received information about the anti-nuclear movement around the world, but the movement in Japan was not widely known. We needed a publication in English to let people know that there are many movements in Japan.
　Personally, I also wanted to show that the Japanese movement based on the local people has been able to prevent the construction of nuclear power plants more powerfully than large scale demonstrations. Citizens refused to sell their land, they protected fishing rights, and got local government assemblies to pass resolutions against construction. Tohoku Electric Power Company finally gave up the construction of the Namie-Otaka Nuclear Power Plant after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Takashi Masukura of Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, who appeared in the "Anti-Nuke Who's Who" in the fourth issue. Unfortunately, Mr. Masukura passed away before the victory was achieved. 
　I think it’s important to tell the people in the countries where new nuclear power plants are being built about the activities of the Japanese government, electric power companies and other parties promoting nuclear power plants. In addition to the main articles, the "News Watch" section, which I have been in charge of, plays an important role.
　I would like to ask for your support so that we can continue to provide useful information to help eliminate nuclear power plants from the world.

　NIT began in 1987 when the No Nukes Movement was sweeping the globe after the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl exploded and radiation spread over the northern hemisphere. We felt it was important that more information about the nuclear situation in Japan was available to people around the world.

　The next nuclear disaster at Fukushima in March 2011 also had a big global impact. Many people, including the foreign media, told us that the CNIC website and NIT provided vital information at this time. We all reconfirmed the significance of continuing to publish NIT.
　NIT is one of the only English resources that cover a wide range of information about the nuclear situation in Japan over such a long time period. Researchers from around the world quote NIT in their work.
