About Us

We are site-specific immersive theater production in Japan.

We shine a spotlight on hidden places in Japan and create a story with dance and Japanese cuisine inspired by a local area and its people. And of course, the show is non-verbal so anyone from any country can enjoy it.

 

 

Our Situation

The show postponed to November.

Unfortunately, in our current COVID-19 situation, we were unsure when we will be able to launch the show. It was a difficult decision to make since we have been preparing this show for two years. However, due to the tremendous support from the Geisha district and our team members, we felt a sense of obligation to see this project to its end. Therefore, we have decided to postpone our show from June to November 2020.

About the Show

 

 

 

Story

The story revolves around the geishas of Asakusa and the people in her life.

A geisha of Asakusa must choose between whether to follow the man whom she believes is the love of her life or to pursue her professional career as a unique performance-artist. In her world, where traditional values are highly emphasized, she seeks to find her own "true happiness".

 

 

Where will it take place?

Our new immersive show, “Shadows of the Flower” will drop you into experiences that takes place in the hidden Geisha district in Asakusa, Tokyo, where it called “Asakusa Kagai”. The main venue, “Asakusa Kenban” is the  office for geisha where they plays an important role of geisha business, and the space where geisha practice dancing and shamisen. This place is not a tourist location, and it is mostly off-limits to anyone outside the industry. 

 

 

 

History

Asakusa Kagai was established in 1752, and has continued to develop and change with the times. In the late 1920s, there were almost 1000 geisha, 50 restaurants, and 250 tea houses. But now, however, there are only about 20 geisha, 6 restaurants, and the number of incoming successors has been decreasing. Our immersive show invites a new, young generation to appreciate and engage with the Geisha culture, uniting innovation and tradition.

 

 

Who is geisha?

A geisha is a woman highly trained in the arts of music, dance, and entertaining. Geisha is Japanese for "person of art." They spend many years learning to play various musical instruments, sing, and dance. 
Contrary to popular belief, geisha are not the Eastern equivalent of a prostitute, a misconception originating in the West due to interactions with Japanese Oiran (courtesans), whose traditional attire is similar to that of geisha.

 

 

 

 

Why Special?

The story told through various genres of dance, will guide you through the life of an Asakusa geisha, and at the same time provide traditional Japanese cuisine that compliments the story and character’s emotion. The show is non-verbal so anyone from any country can enjoy it. And ofcourse, the show will be performed in the real geisha district by official support from the Geisha Union.
