前橋にある朝鮮学校の先生たちの生活を支えてあげたい!

Support Korean school teachers!

プロジェクト本文 [Update]

▼ネクストゴールへの挑戦 (Challenge to the NEXT goal)

We've achieved our first target! I appreciate your warm support, cooperation, and cheer from the bottom of the heart. Achieving the goal, our team members got together and decided to set the next goal! There is only one Korean school in Gunma prefecture, and now they are suffering from a 3,000,000yen budget gap because of COVID-19. To fill a budget gap, we doubled our goal.

A detailed breakdown of your donation
for school: 3,000,000yen
for return: 678,400yen
handling charge: 501,600yen
total: 4,180,000yen

The new target is not easy to achieve, but we are going to make this project more attractive and meaningful by contributing to school with repair work and advertisement of the 60th-anniversary event. I hope you will keep your eyes on this project, and I would be happy if you share it with many people.

▼概要 (Outline)

COVID-19 pandemic brought a substantial decline in donations for the school. As for the budget for the FY 2021(April 2021 ~ March 2022), we need 3,000,000 yen more to support our school. I would like to help the school with your donation.

▼自己紹介 (Self-introduction)

Hello! I'm So Hae Jun, the 3rd generation of Korean residents in Japan. I was born and brought up in Japan. I graduated from Gunma Korean Elementary and Junior School. After that, I went to Tokyo Korean Junior and Senior High School  and I spent whole my high school days engrossed in rugby. Now, I go to the university in Gunma to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

My dream is to run an accounting firm that will contribute to economic activity in Gunma having my identity of being Korean in Japan. Even if I live in Japan, I can enjoy my university life with Japanese friends with my Korean name. I'm proud of being Korean. Teachers at Gunma Korean school made me so. I can't thank them enough. However, now, Gunma Korean Elementary and Junior School, which the school I graduated from, has been suffering from financial difficulty because of COVID-19.

It's a long story but could you please be here for me?

▼朝鮮学校について (About Korean schools)

Students at Korean schools have roots in the Korean peninsula. You can find Korean schools all over Japan. The one I graduated from is in Maebashi city, Gunma prefecture. People often ask us "when did you come to Japan?", but all the students and teachers were born and brought up in Japan. We are the descendants of Koreans who came to Japan when Korea was a colony of Japan.

Korean schools focus on shaping students' identities as Koreans even in Japan. We learn the Korean language, history, and culture to deepen our understanding of ethnic roots. And above all, teachers emphasize how important to be a bridge between Korea and Japan all the time.

In my school days, I joined a lot of exchange programs with local people there. For example, we sang Korean songs at the daycare center next to the school and we joined the "International Exchange Festival" in Takasaki and "Takasaki Matsuri"(local festival) annually.

Performing Korean dance at the daycare center.

When the economic and political tensions are reported, you can easily find hate speech against Korean residents in Japan. Despite living in the harsh Japanese society, I can spend my joyful university life with my Japanese friends without any prejudice thanks to what I learned at Korean school. Looking back, all the time, teachers told me the importance of establishing a good friendship between Korea and Japan, and the spirit of mutual respect.

▼コロナ禍の朝鮮学校運営 (School management under COVID-19)

By the way, COVID-19 has changed our lifestyle completely different from the past. Especially, the economic damage is significant, and it had a big impact on fiscal management at the school.  The donation takes a huge part of school administration. As the economy has got worse, the amount of donations has decreased. The administration is in a serious situation.

To overcome the situation, the many alumni have worked all together and held charity golf competitions, school bazaars, and so on. There were some people who continued their donation to school saying that it might be in a more severe situation than their companies.  We reviewed the annual budget to cut the cost as much as possible. As the result, we could overcome the financial difficulty of the FY 2020(April 2020~March 2021).

▼来年度の見通し(The outlook of the FY 2021)

According to the budget review of the FY 2021 by school administrators, the school has a shortage of 3,000,000yen even we do charity work and cut down the cost same as the FY2020.  COVID-19 makes the donation smaller and smaller. If we diminish the running cost more than FY2020, we cannot afford to run the school. If we can't find any additional support, it will be difficult to drive a school bus, pay utility costs, and buy teaching materials. Also, teachers' salaries may be reduced because of financial difficulty.

▼プロジェクト発足の思い(What motivated me to start the project)

In 2020, the school celebrated the 60th anniversary of its foundation. It would be the time to give high praise and imagine further growth and development, but in the reality, we faced financial difficulty.

Facing the difficulty, I wanted to do something for the school, so I visited there many times. Then, I could find how the teachers work hard there. When I was a student at the school, I just met them in classrooms and schoolyard. In the reality, they drive a school bus in the morning, prepare lessons and other stuff for the next day till late at night, and lead club activities on weekends. I was surprised to know how they work hard weekdays and weekends. My father, who is one of the school administrators, told me that some teachers pay by themselves for teaching materials and seminars for improving lessons and club activities. They work day and night for the school and students. I was so impressed with their passion, and at the same time, I thought I shouldn't leave behind this harsh situation. I have to reduce their financial burdens as soon as possible.

At the Korean school in Maebashi, some teachers from Hokkaido and Hiroshima, and some teachers have their families and children. I want to make the situation better so that they can do their jobs without any worries. That brought me to start this project with many alumni.

  ▼必要な金額(The necessary budget)

As I mentioned, the school needs to cover 3,000,000yen. The target of this project is to donate 1,500,000yen, half of the necessary budget. The amount of your donation for this project will be used for covering the school's finance. Gunma Korean Elementary and Junior School follows the guidance of Gunma prefecture, and there is no misuse.

▼最後に (Finally)

For the 60th anniversary of the foundation, the committee members had promoted the event project, but we had no choice but to postpone it. Not only Korean schools but also many people around the world are suffering from difficulties in front of COVID-19.

When I was a member of the rugby club at Korean high school, I wanted to run away from hard practice a lot of times. Also, I faced the difficulty of living as a Korean in Japan. Then, I could find the key to overcome the hard situation. That is to keep moving forward day by day.

Facing the school financial difficulty, I determined to try something worth not waiting for anyone who would help us. I'm sure that this project means a lot to bring hope for the bright future of Korean schools. Through this project, I will resolve the school's financial difficulty and show you the energetic posture to live in the CODID-19 period.

When the project succeeds, I will send supporters a thank you letter and a detailed report. It will be a practical contribution to you. Thank you so much for reading through! We all are in a severe situation, but I hope you will support us!
