This is a message of support from the shelter staff, Ms.ShamrinYamashita.

When I first entered the Jinbocho shelter, I was instantly impressed by how incredibly clean and well-kept it was. I knew this shelter was a place that I could wholeheartedly recommend, and I wanted to join in the mission of giving all cats a happy, healthy life. I look forward to working together to save more lives!

 初めて神保町のシェルターに入ったとき、清潔で手入れが行き渡っているところに感動しました。このシェルターは心からお勧めできる場所だと思いましたし、私もすべての猫に幸せで健康な生活を与えるというミッションに加わりたいと思いました。より多くの命を救うために一緒に働けることを楽しみにしています！

The following is the activity report that she translated into English.

Are the elderly a burden to society? Should they give up living with pets? Misha and Noa’s Report

“I was going to call an ambulance, but I could not go to the hospital because I was worried about my cats.” On January 7th, we received an urgent call seeking advice, and we rushed to the home of the consultant. We secured the two cats in a carrier, called an ambulance, and Ms. Furukawa accompanied the owner to the hospital. Ms. Katori and the shelter staff transported the two former rescue cats Misha, an Egyptian Mau, and Noa, a black cat, to the veterinary hospital. This is what happened to the owner. They became immobile due to a neurosurgical condition and are now in the hospital waiting for surgery. Considering the post-surgery rehabilitation, the owner is expected to stay in the hospital for two months. Today, I was able to talk to the owner briefly on the phone. For the sake of the cats, let’s do our best for the surgery and rehabilitation! I’m sure you will be able to get better and better with time. The situation reminded me of taking care of my father last year at the end of his life. Some people on social networking sites are saying that the elderly are a burden to society, but everyone ages and grows older. In the Noto peninsula disaster area, news of disaster-related deaths among the elderly is heartbreaking. I strongly, strongly hope for a society that is kind to both people and animals. Misha and Noa have finished their health check at the veterinary clinic and are now staying at our shelter. Both Misha and Noa seemed upset by the sudden change of environment and absence of their owner, but little by little, they began to rely on the staff. Misha-chan, Noa-chan, let’s do our best at the shelter until your owner recovers and leaves the hospital!
