｜Project Overview

 

The Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses is the first open-air (outdoor)  museum in Japan, where typical farmhouses from all over Japan were relocated and restored, for exhibition together with the tools used.

The museum maintains 12 precious old farmhouses from all over Japan that have been designated as cultural properties.

 

Farmhouse from Shinano Akiyama (the old Yamada-family house) is built in the Edo era (17th-19th century). It has unique features, Hottate Bashira are the pillar set directly on the ground with no base stones, thickly thatched walls, earthen floors covered in straw mats and hay.
 

 

Hundreds of years have passed since it was built, the damage to the farmhouse becomes serious, we had been planning to repair it. But the great repair work costs a huge amount of $ 700,000 (77,000,000 yen) in total.

 

 

In addition to that, it is very difficult to secure repair costs due to reduce of visitors to the museum from the pandemic of COVID-19. 

We, The Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses start a crowdfunding campaign to repair the farmhouse from Shinano Akiyama (one of  important cultural properties designated by the government).
Please help us, to preserve  the farmhouse from Shinano Akiyama built in the oldest architectural style in Akiyama-go, the area known as Sakae-mura of Nagano prefecture and pass it down to future generations.
