Two important graveyards in Myoukan-ji

 The gravesite in the first photo belongs to Mimyo-daishi, the second abbot of Myoshin-ji Temple and founder of Myokanji Temple.Mimyo-daishi was the only disciple of Muso-daishi, the founder of Myoshin-ji Temple, and all of the current Rinzai-shu Buddhist lineage is linked to him. It is because of Muso-daishi and Mimyo-daishi that we are able to experience Zen teachings, and Myokan-ji Temple protects the grave site of Mimyo-daishi.

 The second photo shows the grave site of Joshu Sasaki roushi, known as “Kyozan-tou".  Sasaki roushi was a great high priest who propagated Rinzai Zen throughout the world and planted the seeds of Zen teachings from his base at Rinzai Temple in Los Angeles, USA. The former and current abbots of Myokan-ji are the children and grandchildren of Sasaki roushi, and because of this relationship, we have decided to establish a gravesite at Myokan-ji in addition to Rinzai-ji in accordance with his wishes before his death.

 So, Myokanji Temple is a special Zen temple that has been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the gravesites of two great Zen monks, Mimyo-daishi and Sasaki Joshu Roshi, and passing on their teachings to future generations.
 Myoukan-ji is currently preparing for the 650th anniversary of Mimyo-daishi's death. We are asking for donations through crowdfunding to help fund part of this project. We would like to ask for your support.
