About Mimyo daishi

 Mimyo-daishi, who will celebrate the 650th anniversary of his death in 2027, is the only disciple of Muso-daishi, the founder of Myoshin-ji Temple, and the second abbot of Myoshin-ji Temple. He is also the founder of Myokanji Temple.

 It was about 100 years ago that Mimyo-daishi was bestowed the title of Daishi by Emperor Showa. In the long history of Japan, there have been less than 20 Buddhist priests who have received the title of “Daishi” from the emperor, including Muso Daishi, the founder of Myoshinji Temple.

 The “Mimyo” in the Mimyo-daishi title derives from the first phrase of the sutra, “Mujo jingjing mimyo hou”.  This means “the supreme, profound, and delicate Dharma of the Buddha.

 Myokanji Temple is a small Zen temple, but we are committed to preserving and passing on the Zen teachings and the graveyard passed down by Mimyo daishi.

 Myokanji Temple has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the 650th anniversary memorial service of Mimyo-daishi in 2027. We hope that many of you will support us and that many of you will connect with Mimyo-daishi.
