Dreams and Hope thru story-telling
Philippine Ohanashi Caravan is visiting children, sharing various books and doing story-telling. We are hoping children to be reaching out their biggest dream and believing their possibility!
Thank you for visiting our page. I'm Ayako Katayama, married to Filipino and living in Philippines for 19 years.
Philippines economy is growing but most of Filipinos seems never received the benefit from it.
A lot of crimes happening every day because of poverty unfortunately.
I have got a friend who is selling sampaguita on the street. I could only help her by buying sampaguita from her every day. I have been feeling that I am no good not helping her and other children and families more.
thinking to teach them how to sew dress, or how about beads accessories, but I didn't have confidence to manage it. Then 16 years passed already.
There were a lot of difficulty after difficulty in Filipino history, still Filipino people are very cheerful and smiling in spite of poverty. I really love them and am receiving energy from them in fact.
Filipinos can survive in any circumstances. And Philippines has beautiful natures still no one has touched. I wanted do something for this country so now I'm offering Philippine Ohanashi Caravan project for Filipino children since April this year.
" children can learn and get a lot of benefit from books in order to open their bright future.''
We believe that the more story-telling projects we continue, the more children will have hope and possibility in their future.
Please help us to raise fund to visit more children and buy more books.
Meeting two key persons made me begin the story-telling project.
I have got the chance to meet mrs Hamashima and have learnt about Interactive-storytelling on August 2014.
I've got the ideas how effective Interactive-storytelling is, immediately after Mrs Hamashima's performances since I had been teaching Japanese language for children for 10 years.
Second key person was Ms. April. She had experiences handling children and coincidently she has looking for job.
The place April living is poor area . She has been known as active person in taking care of children very well in neighborhood. Now she is the coordinator, story-teller, and she is arranging the books also.
When we started our story-telling project for the first time, we were so nervous how children like it or not.
Our first venue was Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City, where so many people living together in small houses.
Even the text books in Public school are not enough for each children, most children have less chance to read children's books. And in the school there must be one correct answer when teacher ask question to pupils, while our Interactive-storytelling aim to give children freedom to have various response and widen their imaginations.
I was so nervous what kind of response those children give us. At first children didn't know what to do with the books we shared to them. But once story-telling began, all children focused on pictures on the storybook April held. Boys and girls big and small children opened their eyes bigger and enjoyed the story and told what they felt actively.
That was the moment I determined to visit more children unceasingly.
Welcome to the World of books! Let more children have more wisdoms and knowledges from books.
Basically we do our project in the morning while still cool. Two books of Interactive-storytelling, free reading book time and snack time. Sometimes dancing and singing, ORIGAMI paper folding, drawing and brushing teeth lessons.
Interactive-storytelling is the give and receive action and is very effective for learning efficiently, children are involved in the story easily and they can experience adventures and other unimaginary happenings. Children can feel what is good and evil, lessons, morals, hopes and possibilities naturally from the stories. And children will gain self-confidence by being accepted their unique thinking then become positive and active.
So far we could continue our project once or twice a week on our pocket money. Tree times or more children will be the beneficiaries through this READYFOR Cloud Funding project.
Inspirations and impression from story-telling and stage-play etc. will stay deep in children's heart. And it is affect their entire life even though it doesn't change children's attitude at once. Please help our project!
