Our Field Visit to Batticaloa~初めてのバティカロア訪問

On 23^rd of August we went to Sarvodaya head office met Dr A.T. Ariyaratne who is the founder of Sarvodaya, and Dr.Vinya Ariyaratne who is the current president of Sarvodaya. This was an opportunity to share many valuable ideas about our project before the field trip to Batticaloa. Also, Sarvodaya women’s movement who is currently doing the land operation of the project immensely supported us through our journey.

8月23日、私たちはムラトゥーアにあるサルボディアの本部を訪れ、設立者のアリヤラトネ博士と、現在の会長、ヴィンヤ・アリヤラトネ博士にお目にかかりました。バティカロアに行く前に、このプロジェクトを説明して、様々なアイディアを出し合いました。この訪問の間中、「Hope for Mothelanka」を運営している団体、サルボダヤ・ウーマンズ・ムーブメントが、私たちをサポートしてくださいました。

 

 

It was our first time to visit the Eastern part of Sri Lanka. Batticaloa is a beautiful city with a beautiful lagoon and so much culture. Batticaloa is also major commercial city of the east province. Pasikura is a popular tourist destination close to Batticaloa. This city has many historical insights with tales dating back to World war 2, 2004 Indian ocean Tsunami, Sri Lanka Civil war... Unfortunately, the 2019 Easter Sunday attack also happened at the Zion church located in Batticaloa.

私たちは、初めてスリランカ東部を訪れました。バティカロアには美しい潟があり、多様性に富んだ文化をもつ美しい都です。東部屈指の商業都市でもあります。バティカロの近くに位置するパシクラは、人気の観光地です。バティカロアは歴史的な出来事が多い場所といえるでしょう。第二次世界大戦とスリランカ内戦では戦場となり、2004年のインド洋津波では甚大な被害を受けました。そして、2019年には、キリスト教ジオン教会を標的にしたイースター・サンデー・テロが起こりました。

 

 

When we visited Zion church it was under construction after Easter Sunday attack.

私たちがイースター・サンデー・テロの後にジオン教会を訪ねた時には、まだ復興工事の最中でした。

 

 

At the entrance of the Zion Church we could see people who were killed ing the Easter Sunday attack.

教会の入口で、テロの被害者を見ることができます。

 

 

As Zion church is in under construction people do their Sunday prayers at St John`s Church in Batticaloa. We met people from the Zion church and discuss about our emotional healing program and facilitator training program.

ジオン教会が工事中の間は、同じくバティカロアにある聖ヨハネ教会でミサを行っています。ジオン教会の方々との心のケアプログラムについて、またファシリテーター養成講座について話し合うことができました。

 

 

We also met children who experienced The Eater Sunday attack and had a friendly chat with them. They had many injuries and were currently in the recovering process. As they received quick treatments, they are physically getting better and some kids already started going to schools. Also, many children had undergone plastic surgeries as their faces were burnt from the blast. There was one child who got blind after attack. She also lost her parents from the blast. According to Zion Church details there are around 170 kids who are traumatized from the incident. Through our first project we hope to involve with 80 kids this time.

テロの被害にあった子どもたちとも、親しく話すことができました。多くの子どもが傷を負っていて、現在も治療中とのことでした。しかし、テロの直後に素早く治療を受けられた甲斐があって、学校へ戻れているほど回復した子どももいました。また、爆風によって顔にやけどを負った子どもたちは、整形手術を受けました。失明をした子どももひとりいました。彼女は、爆破で両親も失っていました。ジオン教会によると、170人の子どもたちが、テロにより心の傷、トラウマを負いました。その中の80人と、今回の訪問時に会うことができました。

 

 

So far, all the people we met who experienced the Easter Sunday attack at the Zion church was traumatized and trying to heal themselves. I hope our project will support them at least bit for their peace of mind. Also, we want our facilitator training program will continue repeatedly for many years until them get heal.

ジオン教会で出会ったテロ被害者の方々は誰もが心に傷を負い、何とかそれを癒そうとしていました。私たちのプロジェクトが、その方々の癒しの一端となれることを望んでいます。また、ファシリテーター養成講座もこの先、人々の心が癒えるまで続けたいと思っています。
