Day22　英語を教えて気づいた、本当に大切なこと

今日は、「なぜ海外の教育に鍵があると思うのか？」についてお話しします。

私は20年間、子どもの英語教育に携わってきました。

その背景には、自分自身の経験があります。

 

私は、中学1年生で英語につまずき、決して得意ではありませんでした。
それでも、英語の音の響きや海外への憧れから、「苦手だけど好き」という気持ちはずっと持ち続けていました。

 

そして、大人になってから海外に行ったり、外国の方と会話する中で、さまざまな価値観に触れることで世界が広がり、心が解放される感覚を味わいました。

自然と自己肯定感が高まり、「英語が話せると、世界が広がる」と実感しました。

 

その経験から、私は「英語を学ぶこと＝点数を上げること」ではなく、英語を通じて自己肯定感を高め、世界を広げること を子どもたちに伝えたいと強く思いました。

 

英語を好きになることが、英語力向上のカギ

 

英語を教える中で、私は「英語が楽しい！」と思える環境づくりにこだわってきました。

 

• 💗教室に来る楽しみを作る（イベントやゲームを活用）
• 💗生徒さんとの信頼関係を築く
• 💗心の安定を感じられる環境を作る

 

しかし近年、中学生の英語が難化し、ついていけずに挫折する子が増えています。

 

「もっと頑張れ」「やる気を出せ」と言われる中で、「自分はダメな存在なんだ」と自信を失っていく子どもたち。

学力偏重の学校教育の中で、どんどん自己肯定感が下がる子どもたちを見て、私は強い違和感を覚えました。

 

本当に大切なのは、英語のスキルより「心の土台」

 

私がたどり着いた答えは、「心の土台」が安定すれば、自然と「学びたい！」という気持ちが湧いてくる ということです。

それを引き出すのが、「コーチング的な関わり」でした。

 

私自身、コーチングを学んでから、生徒さんとの関わりに自信が持てるようになり、自己肯定感を高めることができました。

そして、「そのままの自分で大丈夫」という自己受容の感覚こそが、成長の土台になると確信しました。

 

目指すのは、温かい社会づくり

 

自己受容ができると、相手のことも受け入れられます。
それが、温かい社会につながると信じています。

 

それを育んで行けるような、親子向けのワークショップ、イベント、海外ショートステイ企画 などを実施していきます。

Good morning! This is Juri!

 

Today, I want to talk about why I believe overseas education holds the key to a better learning experience.

I have been involved in children's English education for 20 years, and my passion for this comes from my own personal journey.

 

Struggling with English

 

When I was in my first year of junior high school, I struggled with English. It was never my strongest subject.

I was always fascinated by the sound of the language and had a deep admiration for foreign cultures. Despite my struggles, I held onto the feeling of "I'm not good at it, but I like it."

 

As I grew older and had opportunities to travel abroad and talk with people from different cultures, my world expanded.

I felt a sense of freedom, and my self-esteem naturally grew through these experiences.

 

That was when I realized:

"Speaking English opens up the world."

 

From this experience, I strongly felt that learning English should not just be about improving test scores but about boosting self-esteem and broadening one's world.

 

Loving English Is the Key to Improvement

 

As an English teacher, I have always focused on creating an environment where students feel "English is fun!"

 

✅ Creating excitement about coming to class (by events and games)
✅ Building strong relationships with students
✅ A place where students can feel emotionally secure.

 

However, in recent years, English education in Japan has become more challenging, and more students are struggling to keep up.

Many hear phrases like "Try harder" or "Be more motivated", which only leads them to believe "I'm not good enough."

 

Seeing students lose confidence in an education system that prioritizes academic performance over personal growth has made me feel a deep sense of unease.

 

More Than Just English Skills—The Foundation of the Heart

 

Through my journey, I’ve come to a clear conclusion:

 

💗 When the foundation of the heart is stable, the desire to learn naturally follows.

 

And the key to drawing out this desire is "a coaching-based approach."

 

After learning about coaching myself, I became more confident in how I interact with students.

I also developed a stronger sense of self-worth, and I firmly believe that self-acceptance—the idea that "you are enough just as you are"—is the true foundation for growth.

 

💗Creating a Warmer Society

 

When we can accept ourselves, we can also accept others.
And that, I believe, leads to a more compassionate society.

 

To make this a reality, We will be organizing:
🌍 Workshops for parents and children
🌍 Community events
🌍 Short-term overseas experience programs

 

But to bring these projects to life, I need your support!

 

 

Our immediate goal is to launch a successful crowdfunding campaign.
