About this project

 

This project aims to help the children,
who suffered from the disaster (earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear),
to regain their smile through playing in rich nature of "Forest of Komera 〜Minami-Aizu〜"
and Sadogashima Island, also through re-living the rural life.

 

We wish to continue to support all the children
so that the may nurture the very "root" of life, and keep smiling.

 

* "Komera" means "children" in Aizu dialect.

 

"Mori-no-YuGakuSha" which literally means "Playing and Learning Hut in the Forest,"
or just simply, "School in the Forest", is a small N.P.O. started 15 years ago.

 

We have provide children with the opportunities for them to foster the "root of life,"
which gives them confidence and pride in life.

 

Even after three years since the earthquake, there are still many children and parents who hesitate,
from the fear of radioactivity, to go on hiking, to swim in the sea, or even just to play outdoors.

 

They are spending days under stress.

 

"Forest of Komera" is located in Minami-Aizu Town, Fukushima Prefecture,
where the radiation is around 0.06μsv/h (that is considered relatively low).

 

We plan the recreation stay for the children mainly from the disaster-hit areas,
let them play in the mountains and forests abounding in rich nature,
and provide a community life in an old farm house as well.

 

With support from many people, in the summer of 2013, for the first time after 3.11,
we were able to produce a 9 day recreation tour to Sadogashima Island (Niigata Prefecture) in the Sea of ​​Japan .

 

During the stay on the island, children, adults, all of us, spent the quality time,
freed from anxiety and stress that had been annoying us.

 

Laughter never stopped.

 

In this coming summer, in addition to activities in the mountains of Minami-Aizu,
we wish to provide again, opportunities to play and swim in the sea of Sadogashima Island
for more children who are facing difficulties.

 

To provide more and more opportunities of recreation and playing outdoors,
we try to minimize the entry fee each time.

 

Lack of funds has been covered by public and private donation from home and abroad.

 

However, as the time passes by, we feel that interest of the people in the difficulties of these people is fading recently.

 

We are facing a severe difficulty to keep "Forest of Komera" running, due to lack of funds.

 

We ask for your support, in order for us to continue providing children with the memorable experiences in the "mountain" and the "sea".
