The Artist Behind the Book Cover: Monika Viktoria
Monika Viktoria is an artist of Hungarian descent living in Australia. She predominantly works in watercolours, but her practice is diverse and includes printmaking, oil painting, sewing, embroidery and even toy sculpting. She had her first solo exhibition in Hungary in 2012 where she exhibited over 60 paintings inspired by Hungarian and Transylvania folk tales. In 2019 she had a solo show of her art in Tokyo, Japan. This show was themed around Moss and Mushroom creatures and showcased her original sculptures and toys. Her recent watercolour paintings have been inspired by Japanese mythology and folklore, including Yūrei and Ikiryō. She is very interested in the way women are represented as ghosts and spiritual beings in art and literature.
