キベラスラム内にあるマゴソスクールのダン校長からドリスさんとの出会いやマゴソスクールでの教育機会、そしてドリスさんの大学院進学がもたらすものまで、その想いを寄せてくださいました。

I came to know Doris Awandu in 2007. She was brought to MAGOSO to do tailoring but we as teachers thought that she was still young and therefore should be taken to class because she did not have any academic certificate. When we talked to her, she accepted and was willing to learn. 

 

She was staying with her aunt who had brought her to Nairobi to help with baby sitting. Her stay with the aunt was not rossy at all. When the aunt realized that that Doris loved school so much and that she had been taken to class, she decided to frustrate her efforts to study. She had wanted Doris only to take tailoring classes and then go back home for baby sitting.

 

Now Doris was in class and getting home late from school. All of a sudden Doris was not coming to school. When we went looking for her, she was not willing to let us know where Doris was. But later we learned that she had been taken upcountry. 

 

So we went to the children's office for intervention. Later Doris was brought back and the teachers celebrated. 

Mama chuchu decided that she stays in magoso and persue her education. Doris is one among the girls magoso will be proud of. She used to perform averagely in class but her determination really played a big role in her success. She is humble and always focused. Doris is someone who likes consulting alot. This is the spirit of someone who wants to go far. 

 

She has a passion for persons with special needs and always thinking about her home and how she can make other people's lives better. Even when she fails, she will try again and again until she succeeds. 

 

She is an example of the students in magoso who came into the school with a twisted life, sad and without a dream. But magoso helped her build a dream, have hope and fine meaning in this life. She studies hard and works with all her heart to achieve her dreams. As she is now looking forward to joining masters classes, I would say that this is a very good decision because she is going to make her dreams come true.

 

This will make her a source of inspiration to alot of students in magoso. It will make other students see that there are possibilities in life. 

 

She will motivate the children coming from magoso and Kibera at large that no matter what hardships they face in life, they can always succeed. Challenges are many, but with support from friends, warmth from those close to us and prayers, we can achieve our dreams. 

With God all things are possible. I support Doris' dream for masters.
